Adding a pulpit

Did anyone add a pulpit on there V ? What did you use? How long and wide and was it worth it. What do you do with the chain and rode?

i remember someone made one out of starboard years ago, I was going to make a base out of epe' and mount the fairlead on it, but never did. You run teh chain thru a pvc pipe and into a bucket for storage BTW, i have a maxwell freedom 5000 windlass with rode for $500

I may have the spelling wrong, but it's hard wood used for decking that's simular to teak. I had a bunch of scraps from a decking job at on of the marinas. I was going to build a flat base for the failed out of it on the deck and stick it over the bow a couple inched. The failed is the stainless steel channel with a roller for the anchor rode to run thru and support the anchor

Pretty sure it’s spelled Ipe (pronounced ee-pay). It’s so dense, it doesn’t float and I believe it won’t burn either. It’s good stuff, but has gotten really expensive. There are other lesser known tropical hardwoods that are pretty equivalent, so if anyone is wanting to build something like what Spare is talking about, check around with hardwood suppliers to see what’s available that’s most cost effective.

I was getting free scraps at the time, they were redoing a bunch of docks at Bohicket Marina, I did a little dumpster diving when i spotted some good boards thrown in the pile. I had planned to build up a flat platform off the deck and thru bolt the fairlead on top. Would have looked nice. that boat ended up at the dump, bad floor, stringers, transom

I helped a friend build a deck using ipe, he was the carpenter, i just handed stuff to him. Then I rebuilt all of the wood in my 13 whaler using some scraps and left over board. Agree with Scook, great on boats. But very dense, hard on tool and blades. You MUST predrill and screw holes. Does not take epoxy well, mechanical fastens should be used.

Is mahogany that much more?

this is a pic of the one i added to mine bout 20 years ago. Love it, made anchoring much easier and safer. Was doing a lot of diving then so multiple anchor drops every trip.

also went with a stainless rail over zmack

this is the underside with the backing plate, aluminum plate with a thin epoxy coated plywood. the black tubing connects the deck pipe to the anchor locker in the bow. keeps water out of cabin then deckpipe is open, mostly.

also, this is a ipe dash i made that fits the original black plastic one, when i repowered, all gauges were replaced with one smart guage.

i just made a starboard one,,,,,much easier to use

anybody want this one, let me know
