1995 SEADOO 650 gtx

Just lined up a roof for one of my best friends dad. we used one of my old roofing subs to do the job and I saved him a bunch of money . So in return he gave me a jetski he bought brand new in 95. It has been sitting for almost 7 years and he gave it to me for helping him get his roof project together. Anybody on here a jet ski guy that can tell me if these skis are worth a crap? so far I have bought a new battery, drained all gas and oil out of tanks, pulled gas lines off of carbs and blew air thru fuel lines removing old gas, ran a compression check and both cylinders are at 150psi with a cold motor, shot a small dab of eyther/wd40 mix and she fired right up with new plugs. should I pull and clean the carbs? anything else I should worry about before I put fresh gas to her?

If it has been sitting that long, I would pull both plugs out and put about 2 ounces of marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and let it sit overnight before you run it for long. And when you do get it running add some sea foam to the fuel to help break any hardened carbon buildup loose. Also you may want to pull the water lines to the engine off and make sure there is no mud or debris in the cooling hoses and circuits.

You should only have one carb and they are really easy to work on but they have a small screen inside them that will collect gunk and not allow fuel to get where it needs to if they sit up for a while. Easy fix with carb cleaner and compressed air.

You can probably keep the oil injection if it has it. I would also check the carbon seal, which is the seal that keeps the water from coming in from the drive shaft. Check it for cracks. Also it might need a new wear ring, but you will be able to tell if it does when you launch it and try to run it.

www.sbtontheweb.com is the spot to go for aftermarket waverunner parts.

Those engine's are pretty solid, I ran the hell out of a '97 718cc engine. it sunked a few times and just kept on going.

Thanks fellas!!!! im alot of things but a jetski guy Im not!!!! LOL!!! I've pulled so many tourist out of the marsh in back bay in the past 20 years it kinda gave me a bad taste for jetskis!! I can deal with this one beacause you can work on it and my daughter will have alot of fun riding with dad. Any other advice is welcome.
thanks

there is a guy here that i see each summer that fluke fishes the island with a jet ski, i thought about it before, but have never done it.

I'm a jetskier and I work on them as well, pm me if you have any questions. Been a little while since I've messed with the 650 rotax, but they're fairly simple
:jet:

simple is not the word!!!! this thing is a cake walk. after doing alot of research online Ive learned alot!!! have the venturi valve is off and jetpump so I can replace impeller boot, orings and neoprene seals and jet pump oil. have ordered new steering cable and choke cable. removed exaust so I could remove starter and build new negative and positive battery cables. have ordered oem mikuni rebuild kits for the 2 carbs. have also bought 20' of new 1/4 inch fuel lines. cleaned fuel selector switch. ordered a oil delete plate(kit) to covert it to pre mix fuel. the wear ring looks like its brand new so it good to go. anything else I can do for preventative maintenence?

well nothing is free!!! you guys taught me that lesson when I first posted my V a 1 1/2 ago!!!lol!!! so far I have about $234.00 dollars in this ski. OEM mikuni carb kits and needle and valve seats are not cheap!!!!! steering cable, neoprene gasket, and choke cable has added to the bill. Thank god a good friend of mine is a jetski tech. and he works out of his garage so alot of nick knacks have been freebies!!!! Thanks Blake!!! you guys should see this ski in tip top shape in about a week.:sly:

Kracker you sound like you got a pretty good handle on gettin' her in top shape...last one I had, I paddled it back to the ramp a couple of hundred yards...using the SEAT...:deer:

Dayum bro....sounds like you've become an overnight jetski tech sensation! I had a couple in my younger days. My last one was a 1994 Polaris. Fun times....you will have. Pics!

Thanks Blue, I am blessed with being able to pick up on things very fast, when you back that with the research power of the internet your possibilities are endless! There is so much you can learn via internet its ridiculous. And of course having forums like this one makes it better.

I 1000% agree with that statement. I remember when I first got online in 1995 with that 14.4 dialup modem.....the moment it dawned on me that I could answer ANY question I could possibly dream up with a couple clicks (and a generous dose of patience, aka dialup).

heres my ski finally finished up. all work done- genuine mikuni parts carb rebuild, jetpump rebuild, oil delete(she pre mixed now)new fuel lines, new fuel filter, cleaned fuel selector switch, evacuated fuel and oil tank and cleaned, new plugs, new steering cable, upgraded 2 finger throttle, new white mx grips etc.... she runs her @$$ off now!!! not a bad looking ski for being 18 years old.

Did some customizing to the river rat this weekend. Made a small swim platform with a cooler lid as a mold and added the cooler and rod rack. Shes ready for some spring catfishing on the river!

Cool, I had a couple old 90 model Kawasaki 650s I got on a deal once. Sold one to a friend who set it up for fishing.
