1990 18' center console question

Hello all,

I am in the process of purchasing a 1990 18' Wellcraft Center console. I do realize the boat is almost twenty years old so i do expect to put some elbow grease into the boat. I was wondering if there are any known problems with this model year that I should be concerned with? Anything specifically that I should look out for?

The boat appears to be well maintained. I could not find any soft spots, and the transom has no cracks.

Thank you in advance!

One or two of the guys here have the 18s and generally they sound like pretty good boats...sounds like you've been over this one enough to find it a sound hull...I'd say go ahead...post us up some pictures

What kind of motor does it have? 115 hp seems to be a good powerplant from what I've read on these boats. Keep us posted and pics are always a good thing.

Thank you for the replies!

I don't have any pictures of the boat just yet. I am supposed to pick the boat up this weekend. Hopefully have a second to give it a quick wash. I will have some pics after the weekend.

The boat has a 1996 Mercury 150 that was installed in 1997. The motor appears to be clean and has low hours. I think the 150 is a little over kill for the boat. Going to see how the boat performs with this motor.

Now I just have to come up with a name. I'm open to suggestions!

See how the boat sits in the water with a 150, if the scupper or drain holes are sitting on or below the water line the will be below it when a couple of guys get aboard and fish. This could be a pain in the arse for water on deck at the least.
should fly with a 150 though if it fits well.

Willy,

I did notice some plugs sitting in the transom. I guessing they were used to plug the drain holes.

I'm curious to see what the boat will do with the 150. Don't know if I will have the opportunity to float it this weekend. I hope the extra weight from the 150 will not take away from the boat's ride. The current owner said he has no complaints.

:sun:Just wanted to add a quick pic of the new toy!

Sorry about the link. I haven't had the opportunity to join the bucket!

I ran the boat this past weekend for about 30 mins. The merc had that boat movin! It was a little choppy to stay on it for a long period of time.

I have some mechanical work to play around with and a lot of electrical to clean up. Just enough to keep me busy.

I'll keep ya posted!!!
