1979 crossflow power pack test?

How do you test power pack failure? I have a 1979 135 hp rude that I took off this v20 that I have compression tested 2 weeks ago and very very very surprisingly has awesome compression ranging around 129 to 130 on all cylinders. I drained lower unit oil and it came out clear and clean. But I have no spark on any of the 4 cylinders which tells me the power pack is bad how do I test for this? and would one of the twin power packs off a 200 seahorse of the same era work on a single power pack 135hp thanks fellas!!!! I have 2 135's one that has been family owned since new that is gonna go on my v20 and a 135 that came with this v20 that I never expected in a million to pass the compression test I did a couple weeks ago and this motor would be a great bonus if I can just replace the power pack to get spark back.

un plug the main wire harnes from the boat, jump the starter solenoid from red to red/yellow, see if you have spark now

I still have not done this test. But I am curious about if you don't or do have spark when you unplug the harness ? I'm going to be testing the motor as you say this weekend. I just wanted some more info on the test.

Many outboards (with magneto ignitions) are like a lawn mower, they create their own spark, when you turn the key off, you short out the ignition, by eliminating the harness, you are taking part of the stop circuit out of the ignition, eliminating the key switch, stop switch, grounded harness, etc...

if that doesn't work, check this out http://issuu.com/cdielectronics/doc...t.xml&backgroundColor=000000&showFlipBtn=true

fixed it.... just for the benefit of future searchers

That is an awesome link. Where does stuff like that hide on the internet!! Ive been searching for this kinda stuff for 3 weeks. Thanks SPARE

All you had to do was ask :hi: I use CDI parts all the time, the old printed version lasted long enough, from now on I use the online version, i just print what part i need and take it with me. Don't sweat the grammar smoke, he knew what I meant, My crappy grammar and spelling is partly how I found this place

I wasn't trying to step on any toes... just figured that someone with a non magneto system might have trouble one day.....

BTW, the only reason my spelling looks good is because I have firefox with auto spell check....
