all done in place with a nice snug fit by adding a couple of pieces of duct tape to the inner 2x4 pieces. Also the tape stops the wood from scratching

I lightly clamped the two 2x4 pieces to the gunnel and made a mark across the top of the two pieces then cut the angle on the table saw.
