Yamaha Hood stuck

Greetings all,

A guy I work with recently purchased a 2016 Key West 239 with a Yamaha 300.

He can't get the hood off the motor to check the oil, says that 2 of the latches won't budge.

Any tips or tricks?

Yeah, I saw all the stuff on the Internet...figured I would try asking here figuring Spare or Ferm may have dealt with it.

His biggest problem is that the dealers are all 3 weeks behind and your boat has to be on their lot to hold your place in line.

Never, he just bought it Friday.

He bought it from a rich guy who pays another guy to store it, put in, take out, have maintenance done.

That guy claimed preseason maintenance was done, but not by him, by a dealer.

So really no telling.

It is only one latch btw.

put some *** on it, if it breaks, that's the pat you have to grind off, drill, etc,, anyway. I haven't run across it myself, I keep my customers stuff maintained. Great motor otherwise

If he hasn't already I'd try having one person push down on the cowl on that corner while simultaneously trying to unlatch. That happens on my 60 etec on my pontoon but never heard of a yamaha latch sticking.

I will give him that tip, thanks BR.

According to Google, apparently Yamaha cheaped out on the latch material around 2016, they acknowledge the problem and will fix it, but the wait at the dealers right now is 3-4 weeks and he wants to use his boat now.

To add to his problem, the oil pressure gauge is not working so he has no faith in running it until he can check the oil.
