bought my first v20, and I cant seem to find the fuse box or the negative block, I have a 78 v20, can someone help!

Maybe the former owner took it out?? Mine was a 76 and had no fuse box either but a bunch of fuse holders that someone added?? I ended up rewiring the whole thing and added my own box.

Hey welcome to the site. You probbly have one mine didn't neither .I put my owm in.If you do your own make it big enough for future electronis or what ever

after doing some re-con I found the hot wire it went to a 4 switch rocker panel it looked to me that the other instruments were wired in to the accessories switch, now if I add my gps should I wire the hot to that accessories switch?

doubledee first of all Welcome to the sight (and madness) I too have a 78 with a lot of the original wiring,gauges,switches etc. Some I have replaced and added a fuse panel with a dedicated pos. and neg. But originally main power was fed to ignition switch then looped through fuses to accessories such as lights, horn,blower etc. all behind the switch panel.
Hope this helps.:clap::clap:

twhrider2 thanks, there is a newer panel with 4 rockers switches , it looks to me that the main positive wire goes to it and the vhf , bearing compass, are tied in to the accessories switch , does this sound right to you, to be honest I never see anything like it , on other boats I owned I had positive fuse block and a negative block, any help i'll take it!

I've set up 3 of these boats (listed below) and I strip out all the boat's wiring and replace w/new...the motor's wiring harness I leave alone...sounds like really extensive work, but not so much...new fuse block under the dash and all comes from that...bring an over sized supply wire from battery to the new block and done...:train:

X1,000,000.....I would highly recommend this!!! This was prob the best thing I ever did for my boat. Despite gettin rid of all the BS, I know how everything on my boat is hooked up. You'll be thankful for the confidence it will bring. I used Blue Sea Systems fuse block when I re-did mine. I love em!!!

That is exactly what I am going to do. I have a negative buss and a positive with spade fuses and will run dedicated wires to them then tap off them for accessories one by one. Fortunately it is simple at moment so it should be easy and much better to manage and properly fuse things. I hate those little inline glass fuses anyway.

I have to trace the wires to and from the fuel tank gauges and double check the others but from battery forward the wires look simple now. I have not even sat in the cuddy and looked at the back of the bulkhead to see what's there but it more than likely is hitting the bricks regardless to modernize it.

Glad you're going to do it right. Be sure use size the main wire from the battery to the panel correctly and be SURE to fuse it right where it comes off the battery - of all the wires in the boat, that's the one you don't want with an infused short.

If your boat is anything like my '85, it's been through a few generations of electronics. I got a couple of 5 gallon buckets loosely filled with completely unused wire when I went after it to clean it up.
