who uses 30's when fishing

i was curious to see who uses some heavy gear on here and what do you prefer.
i am stuck between the okuma TG 30's, Tld 25's and the tyrnos 30's all single speeds.
anyone has any experience?

I'm partial to the TLD25's but it might be b/c its all I've used :head:

I guess its one of those things where it ain't broke and I ain't plannin on fixin it!

I've used the ShimanoTLD 25, 30, and 50's; the Okuma 30's & 50's both silver and gold, and the Penn GLS45's. Never had a failure on any of them. The Penns are the oldest, the Shimano's have seen the most Tuna's. but we have an Okuma TG50W that's sole duty is the WWWWWFB line offshore...that reel has been absolutley abused, loaded w/ 80, and has never missed a beat on 100's of fish.

I think they all make good products nowdays and if you give them a little TLC, will take good care of you.

i try to maintain my reels and rods meticulously. i was just curious to see how the okuma's mostly hold up. for the price they seem like a great deal.

the guy I fished with had intls and Tiagras. ALl were 50 wides. Where we fished we were targeting black fin, wahoo and dolphin. We never had any problems with a dolphin, the wahoos were all depending on the size, they could peel of some line, we never caught a black fin while I was along, so i don't know if they were needed on tuna. My buddy said he used to have 30's but got tired of the tuna handing him his hat. The shimanos were nicer reels, but they were a lot bigger than the penns, we were in a small boat, so they got in the way from time to time. Personally, from what I hear( I can't afford any of those expensive set ups for my self), if i needed the line capacity, i would go with the TLD50s for the money. I don't know anyone around here that uses Okumas for serious offshore, plenty of people around here use them for kings though. Go to Charlestonfishing.com you can search on there about the Okumas, lots of information from people that have a lot more experiance than i do.

like you are saying i will probably end up breaking down and buying the good stuff. its mixed reviews on the okumas from what i hear. kings dont put much of a fight. i'll catch 40 pounders on a 330gti all day long, they give a good run at first then when you put the drag to them they seem to give up.
