white gold

this probably won't mean much to the northern brothers, but we went prospecting in st joe bay wed. weather was great, but the water was very dirty. had heard good reports so after a little scouting, we managed to get these home and in the peanut oil tonight.

after 3 hours, we managed 4 gallons out of a 6 gallon limit, but the meat was good size, netting 3 pints. lotta fun and great eating w homemade onion rings, jalapeno cole slaw, & baked beans.

Now why would you think it won't mean much to us "northern brothers"? Do you think we don't enjoy or know good eats?

It doesn't mean as much to anyone that have had Nantucket scallops. Not sure why, but they are the tastiest scallops!

Please don't fry them...

rkc

i know you guys don't get to harvest them fresh. that's north florida bay scallops. get them from st joe bay east to crystal river. super sweet.
rkc, frying is the preferred method, but sauteing in butter & white wine is my favorite. these are not like the larger ones ya'll get up north, these are about the size of the tip of your index finger.
lotta work, but a lotta fun also.

"Guess you haven't been to Martha's Vineyard"

never been to the land of long pants, i don't go north of I-10.

I know you guys have a large scallop fleet that drags for them, but didn't know you snorkled for them

those must be the ones i see in the fish markets called Sea scallops or diver scallops. they are much bigger than bay scallops. rkc is right, would be a sin to fry those, great on the grill though.

i am jealous of your cheaper lobster prices. around here your looking at $20 a pound at walmart.
i guess every neighborhood has it's advantages..

We have both sizes!! Small Bay scallops and the larger sea scallops, I love the Bay!! there is a place here called the NO Name restaurant and they have the greatest ones I have ever eaten!! I love what we call the milk, I love the juice!!!!!!!!I use to get them all the time when friend pete had his clam farm!!

They got em they just aint enjoyin em with a tall glass of sweet tea!!!
Say's you!!!!! Believe it or not, we like our sweet tea too. Believe it or not, we're not all city folk up here guys. I just got home from my son-in-law's yearly sweetwater fishing derby. Afterwards it was a 1/2 keg of ice cold beer (sweet tea too), ribs, pulled pork and a whole mess of pan fried fish, slaw, tater salad. Wooooo son! I need a nap right now.

garbubba, do you guys get them that far west? i knew mobile bay had a decent population at one time.
i just noticed your from vancleave, home of mac mcanally. i worked in pine island back in the early 80's.

My son-in-law brews it. He and a couple of the guys that fished the tournament are on a local BBQ competition team. They brew the tea to go with their offerings at the competitions and of course special events like last weekend.
