Hello there, I took my 1976 V20 out and had it winterized. My prop is pretty beat I was wondering ifs its worth it to try and get it redone or just buy a new one. I am not sure what size or pitch prop to get the engine is a 199? Merc 112sp. I tried reading it off the prop but dont seem to be able to read it. Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

look at the last 2 numbers, they should be followed by a letter P. that indicates picth, that should be your starting point

The prop is where "the rubber meets the road" for a boat...if it's not right yer wastin' gas and losing performance...you should be in the neighborhood of 15" dia. x 17 pitch (15 x 17) although you'll want to experiment for best on your particular boat...do you have a working tachometer on your boat and know what the engine manufacturer's highest recommended RPM is?...

thanks for the ideas. No I dont have a tach I am just getting into boating got the boat for a song and dance since I am friends with the guy. So far so good had some great times this summer fishing with the kids and family, just wished I could of used it more, still very timmid being out there going learning alittle more each time.
Thanks

That chart is right on for my boat!! I get the right speed and rpms and all!

And I just guessed what I thought I needed!

Dry weight is 1900+ with a 500 # motor, and 60 gal gas 400# I say you safe at about 3000 pounds + gear and such, and people all of 4000+ I hope that helps some
