It blew me away to hear that less than 40% of registered voters vote. My wife and I never miss a vote - even though it seldom makes a difference out here in the Peoples Republic of Oregon.
We have a governor who wasted nearly $200,000,000 on design consulting for a new bridge over the Columbia River without buy-in from Washington State (who had consistently said they weren't interested); spent over $100,000,000 on the roll-out of a state healthcare computer signup system that was so badly managed that it had to be completely discarded; his girlfriend is the subject numerous ethical scandles and his opponent is a responsible guy, but he'll get reelected easily.
But we keep voting - it does OCCASIONALLY make a difference and it wouldn't take all that many responsible people to get off their rears and vote, to make a big difference.
Thanks Spare - good reminder.
