V20 CC leaning post

Basically just looking for feedback. It is just a rough sketch. But this will gain me close to a foot, roughly 6" on each side after I remove the two swivel chairs. doesnt sound like much but it is. I had a plan that utilized the old seat posts but I didn't like the way it looked. Looked like a damn mushroom.

I dont want to clutter the sides of this leaning post since that is the main reason for making it.

I am also considering making the flange internal instead of the way it is drawn.

From here I have a few thoughts since there is the infamous soft spot in the gas tank hatch, which is right behind the helm.
1. I was thinking of unscrewing the helm and trying to slide out the tank cover, fix the soft spot and re-enforce for the leaning post. And possibly try to integrate the post into the hatch cover.
2. Cut the hatch cover an inch or two behind the helm and integrate the LP into the back half of the cover, and replace with a flange/ect to join it back to the other half.
3. Make the post with an integrated floor to just cover the soft spot.

Thoughts and comments are appreciated, thats why I posted.

I like 1 or 2, but wouldnt integrate it in to the floor. Great sketch!

I put a custom designed leaning post on my 19 skiff, more narrow, the right height etc,the stuff I wanted and none of what I didnt, I love it. Most are too big, same with consoles.

Something i did that you might think about is I mounted it to 2 pieces of wood that I screwed and glassed to the deck. Raises it about 3/4 of an inch off the surrounding deck. Keeps the screws up higher and keeps any water out. Did the same for the console.

Roger. I like the seats but they just keep getting in the way not to mention its hard to see over the bow when sitting and driving.

That looks great.

I know what you mean about 2 swivel seats behind the console of a small boat, my uncle's 19' Sea Boss has seats like that, fishing around them are like a wrestling match and like you said, you can't sit in them and operate the boat.

As my son and I are the most frequent users of his boat, I have thought about asking him if I could replace them with a small leaning post.
