Trailer winch

I was wondering what everyone uses on their trailer winches either cable or strap. I have a v20 steplift that weighs 1920 # dry I figure another 1000 # or so with an engine and fuel etc. I just purchesed a 2 speed winch rated for 3200 #. I was also wondering how long does it need to be?

Thanks

Carl

On mine there is a strap. I know that it will reach the end of the trailer but the ramp I use has a good incline to it so the most I pull out maybe 8 feet. Bill Mc ;D

Never liked cable always heard those stories dont know if they were ever true. Always try to pull the boat on trailer as far as possible, strap workes fine. Do have a 1987 30' Searay on a trailer and its uses a cable.

Cable on a 912 Powerwinch for me. I only back my trailer in so the wheel / tire junction is just submerged. Axle / bearings and most all the trailer never touches the water.

Cables suck!! They are always cutting your hands and stuff like that!!
The straps that Wal-Mart and such carry are not strong anough!!
Go here!! I have a 10,000 pound winch strap and it is great!!
I will never get anything else again!
I scewed up when Igot it, and I got the 10,000 X 2" X 25'
You will want the 12,000 pound 3" X 25 it will fit the winch much better! This is what I will get when mine wears out.
Just gotto cover them with something when it is parked in the yard. The sun dioes a number on them.

Carl, I think it depends on how well your V20 loads on the trailer you have and the ramp you're usin'....most of mine is freshwater, so I dunk my axles...if you're like Airslot(don'y blame you) and unwilling to wet those bearings, then you'll probably need some pretty serious pullin' power...that 3" strap MJ's talkin' about appeals to me...is yours a bunk or roller trailer?...
