Trailer Tires

What's the word on good trailer tires. I want good ones and I drive to Florida real fast. I've got a tandem with 13 inch rims. Heard bad things about carlisle and Goodyear marathons. What your opinion?

Buy cheap, buy often.

I've had neither good or bad things to say about tires, usually they crack and dryrot before any problems arise. Same for the wheels, they rust or leak.
It's just been a habit to replace the tires about every 2-3 years on the trailer being taken on long trips. Now the local ones, that is a different story, usually they get the leftovers from the roadtrip trailers.
Normally I buy the tires and wheels at places like Agri Supply, Tractor Supply, etc.
Biggest problem I've seen is the idiots that won't read the inflation recommendations on the tire. Had one idiot that followed us to central Fla, had a blowout and said "don't know what's wrong with them new tires, I put 35psi in them before leaving the house" (yes they were supposed to have 50lbs in them).

I've got carlisles on mine. Been back and forth from florida a few times, no problems. The important thing is to keep them inflated to the proper psi ALL the time to avoid heat build up while towing and flat spots and dry rot while sitting in the driveway. I run 50 psi. I had a set of goodyear marathons on a previous trailer good tires, but more expensive. Be sure to have a good set of bearings and a grease gun too.

I just bought 4 new tires, good year I believe? $68 each installed. The only tires I have ever had a problem is LoadStar I got a nail in one and went to plug it, the tire just kept ripping as I was putting the plugs in? What a hunk of crap!

We normally tote a spare hub.

And threatened to make it attached to the trailer just so it will be out the way.
Well come to find out they sell them, actually cheaper than we could make them.

If you have a tandem trailer with 13" tires . . . just go to pepboys and get some cheap arse tires. I've put well over 10,000 miles in 4+ years (including 2 trips across the country) on a set of tires that cost $30 each new. These haven't dried out (amazing for CA). They have pretty soft side walls too which is the only downside.

I've got 13" tandems and I could actually tell a difference in how well the trailer ROLLED when I went from biased-ply to radials...been w/ Goodyear Marathons ever since 5-6 years and wouldn't do anything else...as w/all tires, keep the air pressure where it's supposed to be

Been on many LONG road trips SC to FL(11 hrs) and to coast(5 hrs) and so many trips to lake 1.5 hrs each...just don't have any problems...
