Them Carolin Boys been quiet...

For those that may not know, the Bluefin bite has been insane out of Hatteras and OI. We fished down there on 3/9 and it was EPIC. Bluefin from 150-300 everywhere, and a few bigeyes in the mix just for pain. Don't get me wrong, we had fun, but this was not your average fun fishing trip. Physical torture is more like it. Caught fish on the troll and jigging. Here is a sample...

No really, I see those reports on IO fishing center. It boils down to this: Our TLD25's don't stand a chance. 'Nuff said :hi:

It would cost me a small fortune to gear up for those beasts. For now I will relish in your success. Nice work there slotster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are getting ready for spring crappie and stripers on the lake and the boyz have been talking like they are ready to hit Hatteras for memorial day weekend mahi madness again....missed it last year.

What are you going to do with your catch? I hear the bluefins bring serious bucks. Are there strick limits on how much you can catch?

Can you say DINNER . Recreational catch right now is one per boat 27" to 73", one per year over 73". We had two definate overs to leader and couldn't finish the job. Busted the leader on one and the hook pulled on the other.

BLUE, TLD 25's are not up to the task. However, the little AVET HX 5/2 whooped on those fish. Amazing how much drag some of those little jigging reels can produce. The last fish of the day was one of the overs. At the hour mark, he dumped the spool on me. I had a TIAGRA 50W in hand w/ 60# mono. We had moved to max drag, maybe 35#'s. He pulled off a good 450 yards. Fought him all the way back and the hook pulled at leader. Probably a solid 300 plus fish.

Was on a buddy's 32 Shamrock. Nice boat for certain. The fish in the pic was 69" and about 180#
Ahh the luck of the Irish! How does BFT rate compared to YFT. I've never had BFT but it seems to be a general consensus that YFT is a lot better. Then again I don't put much stock in general concensuses either. People like different things.

I prefer YFT myself, a little more mild. Don't get me wrong, I'll never turn down a BFT. Longfin is where its at on the table though.

Trying to HO out of Hatteras this Friday. Have new Fin-Nor Marquesa (41 lbs drag) on at Diawa Saltiaga jigging rod that is just ready to bust them up!
