Tell me more About my New (to me) motor

Hello All, Before i bought my V20, I happened upon this Johnson 200 for the right price it came of a guys boat who Barely used it. I believe that it is an 1986 model, and barely looks like it has touched the water. i Already plan on changing the impeller, and the gear oil looks good. What else should i look into, and any problems with these motors I should keep an eye on?

thanks in advance!!

ps the boat in the background is my Grandads sea ray 25 i grew up fishing on, not my V.

you will need to keep an eye on your fuel gauge, it will move really fast

seriously, those old crossflows are pretty reliable. Figure on going thru the carbs, replace all your fuel line and rebuild the fuel pump. You will burn a lot of fuel though

Thank you sir!!

Good to know, and i can do that, im really planning on ideally getting a season or two our of this and putting a newer Etech on it. Good to hear that its relaiable, and i will check the carbs (did it on my old v4 85)

fuel wont be too bad, thankfully most of my runs are only a few miles into the delaware bay :)

Be sure the engine is the right size for your transom. The Johnson looks like a 20" which would not work on a 25" transom without some creative modifications.

I would double check the year as that one looks more like a 76 than an 86 to me. It has the old style switch box on the side of it, the 70's decals, and the mid 70's coils on it. They are good engines, but THIRSTY! Also that engine is maybe 150 at the prop if your lucky. The flat exhaust chested V6 cross flows later on became 150's, and the bubble backs became 175's when they went to propshaft ratings. And if your goign to use it in saltwater, you will need to add zincs to the engine. OMC didn't start putting zincs on until the 80's. I have an 80 and an 81 JOHNSON's outside, and neither one came with the 1st zinc on it from the factory.

Bradford is Right, it is a 20

I guess ill redo the head gasket on my Force 150 and try to get this season out of it. Whats the value on this motor?

200 seahorse was on my dads v20 i fished as a kid. One of There selling feature was a twin power pack system, one for each bank. So if one went bad you could run with the other bank. Atleast thats what i was told. Our 200 was amaxing reliable but as stated she is thirsty!!!! Plenty of power there!
