Talk about something to piss yeah off!

I decided to take the boat out today to a local lake as it was in the low 90's and I had just gotten done mowing the yard. I figured since I just got another trailer under my HYDRA it was time to go and test it out. Drove down to the lake and all was well with the trailer, no problems what so ever. Ran the boat for about 2 hours and went swimming and boat ran great the whole time which was a relief as the gas in it is about 9-10 months old. Got back in and loaded up on the trailer and within 2 miles of leaving the ramp I started feeling a vibration, and after about 5 miles one of my tires was about to come off. Once traffic allowed I pulled off and checked it and somebody had taken 3 of my lug bolts out and loosened the other 2. One of them had fallen out and only one was left in it. Ended up having to pull the one tire off and nurse it home slowly on 3 wheels. The kicker is I had just put air in the tires before I left and double checked all of the lugs and made sure they were tight. Somebody had done this while I was at the ramp as everything was fine on the way down, but almost immediately after leaving the ramp problems began. I could kill the SOB that would do something like this. From now on I will check all of my lugs before leaving the ramp and make sure and put my 4 way lug wrench back in the burb as I had just taken it out last week.

Rant over.

Talk about lowlifes.. Back in the 70's I had a similar incident. Not on a trailer but on my IH Scout. I had just bought new chrome lugnuts the day before so I know that they were tight. Someone stole some off my wheel and my left front tire came off while driving to work. Thank God I was on a back road without a lot of traffic. I was able to put it into 4wd and back myself off the road, dragging the brake drum as I went, then jack the truck up and remounted the tire... wound up stealing one lug nut from each of the other good tires to hold the rim on, then drove nice and slowly to the nearest gas station (about 5 miles) and got it fixed. From then on I have always used a locking lug on each of my tire rims, so I know that I'll have at least one tight lugnut.
Glad you made it home ok Fermanator.... People like that should be made to play hopscotch in the middle lane of Interstate Route 80 during rush hour. Seems about right.....:bat:

You could tell that this was done on purpose on this one as 3 of the holes showed absolutely no signs of being wallered out or anything, but one was mildly wallered and the one that still had a lug in it trashed the rim in that hole. If I had had a lug wrench with me I would have just taken one off the other 3, but I had just taken my 4 way lug out a week before hand. And to top it off this one doesn't have studs but those goofy bolts that go in, so it was really moving around back there.

ferm, you might have to translate "wallered" for our northern brothers. do you think they were after your wheels or just being a holes?

They definately weren't after my wheels as they are typical 13" rims with rusty old galvanized rims to boot. Wallered out is when the hole isn't round anymore from it having something beating ito ut of shape.

maybe some one had a flat and needed just one of yours, no one said theives are smart, probably didn't take thte time to be choosy about which wheels to steal. We keep having probelms with tariler getting stolen at ramps, SC doesn't require tagging trailers, so there's usually no registration. The law enforcement won't do anything about it because there isn't any registration

First of all that really sucks, I am vigilant now every time I park my trailer, since they stole my trailer last year and I was stuck at the dock. I can relate to this, thank god it all all worked out for you.

Good you found it before it turned out any worse. Stupid thieves stole the drivers side door off a Lincoln Towncar while it was waiting for the owner to pick it up from the repair shop nextdoor. They broke the glass and cut the wires with a pair of dykes. Guess which window they broke out? You can't fix stupid.
