Sta-bil Marine Formula Ethanol Treatment

The consensus I read on it was to save your money and buy STAR TRON enzyme treatment instead. Also run the engine out of fuel if at all possible.

I've been using Startron since they started shoving E10 down our throats and I haven't had any gas problems, so I'm sticking with it.

Also, I used to keep my tank full all the time and over winter. The prevailing wisdom was to prevent condensation in the tank.

After researching EXPERT? opinions on Ethanol problems...OLD gas = BAD

Now I let it get down to 1/3 tank or so before filling and run it low for winter lay over.

The idea being NOT to add a little fresh gas to lots of old gas, but to add more fresh gas to a little old gas.

PS. put some in that "lawnmower" gas can in your shed. And the "Oil Mix" gas can for the chainsaw....

I have used it for the last couple years in my 4.3 litre V6 I/O and so far, so good. Recommended shot of it with a full tank in the winter followed by another shot in the spring. It seems, however, that the I/O's are a little more tolerant of ethanol than are the outboards.

I use Marine Sta-bil but I also use Sea Foam along with it. When I put boat away for the winter I completely fill both tanks and treat heavy with Sta-Bil & Sea Foam. Each springtime I have never had one single issue starting up, and the 175 Johnson runs great. Maybe it's just me having such great luck? I do know this, I will not change my routine seeing as it works great for me. Had the carbs rebuilt when I first bought the boat and they have been fine and clean since, with no issues whatsoever. During the season I use the normal dose required by Sta-Bil and Sea Foam makers with never an issue.

nothing in a can or bottle will replace proper maintance and a good mechanic

No, but they can help prevent it if you use them properly. It sure keeps me busy now with ethanol at the pumps. unfortunately ethanol cost me a bundle this week with aggrevation from my chainsaws.

Give the BRP Johnson/Evinrude 2+2 fuel stabilizer----A try--you will be pleasently pleased with your purchase---I have tried just about everything with this crap fuel---and I have been happiest with this product--it ran like I had fresh fuel in it--not 6 month old fuel or like half dead fuel like Sta-bil or seafoam or even ---startron--which was second best.

From the dozens of pages I have read so far it seems that the 2+2 or the current version 2+4 may not be the way to go. See the following.

It also seems that for treating fuel Sta-Bill might fit better.
It also seems if you are looking to clean varnish etc out of your carbs, and wanting to reduce carbon that Sea Foam would be a good product to use a couple times a season heavy to de-carb etc. and at the end of the season to store your boat along with a good fogging oil.
And Sta-Bill in your fuel.
Or from what I am reading now with the E-10 it is best to store your boat with a empty tank.

its best to store your tank close to empty, I've been preaching that for years. Its funny how people refuse to do that. Every one is scared of condinsation in their tanks, even people with plastic tanks. It really confounds me that my custmers will go by $50 worth of chemicals after teh fact to treat their fuel, but complain when it cost t hem $250 t rebuild the carbs because they treated the fuel after the boat sat up all winter. I'll stick with what I know works. I use stabill to treat fuel before storage, use ring free/carbon guard to decarb motors, I have used seafaom as well. I just started using amsoils new fuel treatment, its designed as a after the fact treratment, we'll see how it works

Wow---I have the older stuff--2+2---I will not be buying the 2+4 from BRP---I have not tryed the blue Sta-Bil-----how many of you have used this formula??

Thanks for the heads up Willy---When my 2+2 is gone--it is time to move on--

You know what---Now that I think about it--when I treated my fuel this year--I also filled up with Non Ethanol fuel---that was probabley the difference---DUHR!!!!:nut:

the ethanol stabil treatment is what I used this year for storage and no issues. There was also sea foam in the tank which I use during the season on every other fill up.
I believe the 2+2 also was the alchohol formula too, might want to read the bottle.
You are probably right, your lack of issues is more than likely due to you having access to good fuel.

I use Stabil for winter storage and add SeaFoam all year long. Seafoam seems to be the best stuff I've tried yet. I use it in everything I have, woodsplitter, lawn mower, weed eater, tiller, boats and all my auto engines. I always had trouble with starting the woodsplitter and tiller but now with Seafoam they start right up and always run well. My friend, who lives at Nags Head and has his own business there servicing boat fuel systems recommends Gas Shok. I've tried it and it really stabilizes the fuel! It absorbs the water and cleans the entire fuel system. Great stuff! You can buy it over the net, just look up Gas Shok.
