Repowering V20 w/ New Suzuki 150/175/200?

After a few fishing trips in my still ongoing refurbishing V20 I've decided its time to retire the old 1988 Yamaha 150 2 stroke. It's a great engine but I am running 80-120 NM each time I go fishing. I'm pretty dead set on the DF200 due to the lean burn technology but the price is a little steep. Does anyone have the DF 150/175/200 zuki inline 4 and have cruise and WOT numbers? Maybe fuel burn #'s if I am lucky. I'm currently getting 28-32 mph cruise and 38-42 mph WOT.

You might try to contact Pipe Dream about his Suzuki DF175 on his boat. I was looking hard at that combination for my V-21. I had that engine on a 22 ft Bay Boat and really liked it. It had a lot torque and was smooth as silk. Maybe Pipe can respond with his thoughts.

That's a lot of miles you do but the 88 Yamaha is probably better then the new motors , the new ones are all computers and are great until you have a problem then they plug in there scanner and still tell you we are almost positive that's the problem but we are not sure, so get ready to dig deep I your pocket for the repair. The only thing that is the problem with your old and trusted motor is that I'm sure the parts are getting harder to find .

I do love my older motor, but its time for an upgrade. I have multiple other boats with computer controlled engines. Never had an issue that couldn't be figured out on the electronic side. I need a newer engine due to needing more range and piece of mind. This boat use to run short trips around my house but due to the love of the hull design and ride quality I've been using it for my longer trips.

Very true, 2002, i went from a 2 to 4 stroke, and went from 100 mile range to 200. I have put 560 hours on the engine in 5 years. I figure i have saved about 4 gallons an hour of run time. 560 x 12.00 =6720.00

So when i get 1000 hours on the motor, it will have paid for itself.

At last thats how i justified it to myself

I repowered with the 175. My previous engine was a Yamaha 200 HPDI. The 175 burns a little less fuel than the 200 did, around 4 GPH with a good amount of trolling/slow speed running. My cruise and WOT numbers are about the same as what you said. So far I'm very pleased with it.
