Pushing snow

While ya'll be sitting in your warm house drinking beer, watching TV and or playing with the wifey I'll be spraying liquid salt and pushing snow with the tractor at the walmart and foodlion shopping centers and other places and probably pulling people out of places then they get stuck in the snow while I'm traveling from shopping center to shopping center.

We're "suppose" to get 1-3" tonite and between 5-10" by Sunday.

I'm checking the radar map @ 6:00 tonite and probably will be leaving right after that to start, Normally It takes me about 9-10hrs with 3 of us working the 2 tractors and the RTV doing the spraying.

I'll start spraying so by the time the other 2 get there the snow and ice wil have started melting and the tractors will be able to move it quickly.
This year I'm using a different liquid salt and I hope it keeps the snow from sticking, if it does I wont have to use the tractors.

I'll probably have to do it all over again tomorrow because this will wash away with the snow/ice melting.

Yep,the snow is on the way! I just watched the weather and we're supposed ta get between 10 and 16 inches. If so, it'll be the biggest snow here in a long time. My buddy's got a wrecker and a really nice rollback. He'll probably call on me to take the wrecker out and run that for him. People forget how ta drive when it snows.

heck we get more than you think here in NC but you northerners can't drive in our winter weather as you can up there, we get a thing call ICE / FREEZING RAIN. which we are getting now on top of our 8 inches of snow here. this is our second heavy snow this yr. it's tough when it's raining on top of snow and it's 18* outside.

heck my dad used one of my rider Gravely's at his house and the front dirt/snow blade already he has a nice clean drive, i'm waiting till tomorrow to use the rider Gravely here at my house to clean my drives.

Yeah. We never get ice or freezing rain up here. :haha:

It's 3:30 pm and I just got back in from lastnite. It was a long cold wet nite. I'm tired and I probably will have to go out tonite at 11pm and spread salt after all the places close.

I think I'm gonna go catch some sleep, I thought I'd let you boys know when I got back in I know you were worried about me!!! :you:
(Yea right)

And ya'll thought us landscapers had it made, we have to go out and work even when the mail wont or can't go.

We put out 3,000lbs of salt, 125 gallons of liquid ice and ran the tractors pushing snow since 7:00pm lastnite.

nite boys

With the ice we had lastnite everything is froze here but is thawing because of the sun heating the concrete and pavements, but in the yard it still covered and froze.

We put out 1800lbs of salt and 75 gallons of liquid ice, and pushed snow until 3 this morning.

I love making money but this is cold wet work.

We drove up to my parents house in Raleigh Friday night. We didn't run into any weather till around Garner. Had a good snow fall Friday into Sat. Took the kids and the wife out to play in the snow Saturday. My kids have seen snow, but not enough to play in. We rode the sled that I had when I was a kid(it was pretty old then) down the road in front of my parents house. It was the first time my kids have ever had a chance to play in it(my wife also). we had a blast, then loaded up the burb this morning and drove back to Charleston. Roads were clear around Fayetteville down. Glad to be back home. The triangle area is expecting 10 degrees tonite, its going to be a mess on I40 in the morning, everything that melted today is going to be solid ice in the morning.

Well, as far as the snow goes, it started here about 9 this morning. The band off from Lake Ontario just shifted to the south after leaving 12+ inches depending on where you measure. Good old lake effect. The last few days have been chilly with overnight temps about -10. Warmed up nicely today, 23.
I am a supervisor with the City Public Works. I feel for you guys dealing with wet snow followed by rain and freezing rain; It is an absolute nightmare to deal with. Tough on equipment and the budget. Good luck with the clean-up.

Kids loved being out of school. Mrs. Blue had to go back to school for a teacher workday and I had a time getting her car to the top of our driveway. About 100 yds of my drive is up a nice sized hill. Of course it also doubles a sledding hill too.

In this part of NC its not all that uncommon to see snow. We see it 4 - 6 times a year but only 1 or 2 significant snows.

Now tonight thru Saturday its going to rain/freeze rain/snow. As if the ground isn't wet enough. Come one spring!

We havent had a snow day yet from school...the one decent snow we had was on a Saturday and the 3-6 they are calling for will start Friday night....2 delayed openings for the schools from a couple of nuisance 1-2 inch snow falls that happened over night....All in all not a bad winter so far.

It is very unusual for us to have snow on the ground this long, the city crews are still clearing sidewalks and roads from last Friday's snow, and here comes more.

Looks like the kids had their spring break this week.

Hey BR, what grade does your wife teach? Mine teaches 1st.
