Police Memorial Week

For those that don't know, this week is Police Memorial Week, dedicated to the men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty.

I spent the day honoring Porter Robinson.  Porter was a young man who grew up in the remote mountains of NC and served as a Greensboro, NC cop until he lost his life chasing bad guys in a stolen car.

Every year since his death, members of our Blue Knights Chapter, NC VI, ride to his grave site near Mt. Mitchell, NC (the highest peak east of the Mississippi) to pay our respects and to remind his family that we will never forget the sacrifice that they all paid that day.

It usually rains on us at some point during the ride, and it did today.

I especially enjoy the ride there and back because I grew up on the other side of Mt. Mitchell from Porter, about 20 miles as the crow flys, 40 miles by road.

I am getting too old to ride a sport bike, I am sore now.

My salute to Porter, and to you Hammer and Randle and I know several others lurking on the site. To all those on the job, get home safe every day.

Heard Police Memorial Week anounced on news the other nite...thought about all you guys here in blue (and even one that used to be) ... the older I get, the more respect I have for each of you and what you do every day ...

Way to go bro. What you need is one of them Goldwings. Caddies on 2 wheels.

Yeah, I have always said that I would never get a Goldwing. But as I age, and ride with guys on Goldwings, the more I consider it.

Big seat, back rest, CD player, drink holder, cruise control, CB, lockable storage galore, it all sounds nice.

But they are for GEEZERS!!!!!

I'm a 34 yo geezer ;D

I don't ride for 2 reasons 1) I fear death 2) it would take time away from boating

But, I would love to have a bike to ride on those warm summer mornings. 8) Goldwings are the shiznit!
