plenty of Blues, no Stripers

I got a late start Sunday as I was up late Saturday night. Some of that was trying to make the cheap spiderman and disney kids poles work. They weren't able to pull even a light weight up. oh well. Got the boat ready during the day and here is a pic to show how the bottom paint is holding up.

Didn't leave the house until 6am, on the water at 7. My plan was to go across buzzards bay our of fairhaven to Quicks, but as soon as I came around West Island, I saw "bluefish city". Used my umbrella rig and was catching them like crazy, sometimes two at a time. I kept 5:

Then went to quicks, but not much happening there. Couldn't stay long anyhow as I need to pick up my family.

The youngest (3) is still pretty young for fishing, but enjoyed the ride and playing captain:

Here he is with "grandma":

Here is "Grampa" with his grandaughter who also wasn't that much into fishing (she didn't want to hold the pole when there was a fish on):

Anyhow I was thrilled to have them aboard as these are my son's kids and I don't get to see them as much as my wife's daughters kids. I think they liked the boat ride itself the best:

After that we went to her daughters cottage for a fathers day cookout which was way bigger and longer than I was expecting (hoping). Boy was I beat after getting home and cleaning fish and putting the boat away...

My back may want me to take a weekend off from boating...

great day all around RKC . im glad the weather improved from saturday. i had planned to fish BB out of westport saturday morning but when i got up at 3 the Block Island buoy was still showing 8ft seas. i decided to leave the boat home and just poke around Gooseberry Island with some eels and a popper. the water was so dirty and so rough that i gave up after an hour or two. now isnt the time to take a break though, i just heard the RI bass record fell in the last few days. from now until the comm. season starts is when you have a real good chance at a very big bass in BB. catch em up, Andy

77 1/2 lbs in RI by the same guy that broke the previous state record in 2008 (Peter Vican)

55 1/2 lbs caught from the banks of the Cape Cod Canal. Very impressive for a Canal caught fish.
