Playing in the Surf

I found a beach in Stone Harbor where Kayaks and Sailboats are permitted. Whats really nice is my wife and baby can do the beach thing while I kayak in the ocean. I played around in the surf riding waves and punching through them and took a couple of pictures.

Nice. Looks like the FnD punches right through. Good place to practice surf zone launches and landings. Landings are the hard part. Landings done right and looking good in the process are not easy. Try backwards surf zone landings. It's sometimes easier once you get the feel for it. The thing with going in backwards is that you can watch the approaching waves and time your approach accordingly where it's a little more difficult going forward. Give it a try.
Looking good though Mulv.

I dumped on my first landing. I was riding the wave compensating with my paddle when the yak started tracking sideways and it was like it was on a rail, no matter what I did I couldnt straigten it out and dumped sideways.

On another wave I tried to ride in without angling along the coast. The front of the FnD started to dive into the wave, it looked like I was on a submarine. Luckily I came into shallow water and was abled to step off the side of yak without flipping it. I'm getting the hang of it but I'm going to need a cart next time I go. After kayaking all day carrying it back to the truck is a chore.
