Nothing coming out of my pee-hole

of my Yamaha. Was going to go out for a ride this afternoon, and as soon as I started the engine I noticed. Faint dribble, then nothing. Of course I shut it down right away. Can't see any obstruction at the intake on the foot.

Anything I can check before I resort to calling The Man?

Might give this a try....
Get a small piece of wire and stick it up inside the pee hole while the motors is running. Probably just some sand and salt blocking the passage. We have an 8hp Yamaha that we use on our dingy and pee hole get clogged all the time. I keep a small piece of stainless steel wire wrapped around the handle of the 8 hp just for this purpose.

PS....For crying out loud.......You're using your boat and we just happy not to be buried in snow.:)

Yea we are deep in winter up here , BRRRRR. on my 1989 150 yamaha I have used my compressor to blow air up the outlet hole , this clears any thing that could be cloged in there . if not how old is your impeller ? also check your outlet hose to make sure its conected and not draining inside the cover

you probably just got some sand up in the pee hole, try using some >60lb leader or trimmer string. Hook the flush attachment to a garden hose and see if it pisses clear, if its till doesn't flow good, its something clogged up, it it flows well with the hose hooked up compared to when its running in the water, you may have a weak waterpump

When I first opened this I thought it was a problem with his prostate or something. Do as said above and check the tube for blockages. Dirt and salt likes to get caked up in there. And when engines setup bugs go in and build nests in them.

Thanks for all your replies. In all my years of boating I never had this happen before, but I always look for the stream immediately after starting the engine. Checked under the cover and didn't see any water drainage or leakage. I was going to hook up to the marina dock hose to try to flush but they turned the dock water off due to the "cold" (we had two nights down into the 20s last week). Water pump is 2 and a half years old, but there aren't many hours on it in that time.

I go to work and back home in the dark, so I don't know if I'll be able to try anything before Saturday, but I'll definitely try to work some leader up there and maybe they'll have the dock water turned back on by then.

I've had it happen a couple of times. Once right after I fired up the motor after replacing the impeller! After tearing it down and putting back together twice with no good results I found the exit nipple was clogged with either salt or sand. Talk about frustrating.

When I had a moored boat I would change water pump every year. Stuff grows inside there cause never get flushed well.

Same thing happened to me.

Was a nice chunk of salt I fished out.

Also experienced "cob webs" a piece of trimmer line does wonders. easy to carry and no rust !

Ive also had luck pullin the tube from the nipple and suckin on it. I dont reccomend doin this while the engine is or has been runnin. Gets pretty hot.....
(bring on the suck on my pee-hole comments)

Wow, the turn this thread has taken! lol

I should have posted much sooner. A piece of steel leader did the trick. The only thing that came out was a tiny piece of calcification (salt), but when I fired up the engine the stream began immediately. I can't believe that what came out could have caused a more or less complete blockage, so I'll be keeping a very close eye out for another stoppage in case there is still a larger piece stuck up in there. Not ready to try the ssiredfish method. :oh:
