he keeps lowering that starting bid, started at 6500. i dont think this motor is real. i think this guy just knows that i am broke rite now and is tryin to mess with me!

i plan on repowering with an etec this winter after we done building the house and i dont have to pay rent or 250 dollar electric bills anymore. but i would gladly take this instead and walk with an extra 5 or 6 thousand dollars gas money.

They aint the best on fuel, but they sure are reliable. That is one engine that you shouldn't ever have to worry about gettin you home.

You can buy a lotta gas on the money you'll save ... heck, 20 years from now there won't be any gas, so it won't matter ;D ;D ;D ...

finaly got a bidder. THANK GOD! if that thing woulda kept settin there like that... i was outside working on the boat and i could actualy see that 150 on the back of my boat. i dont know who the bidder is but, he may have just saved my marriage!

Nice motor for sure...but for $7500, I'd get the Suzuki 140 like Randle has (6 year warranty too.) I don't want to start a 2-stroke/4 stroke war, it's just the way I would go with it. Also, for $8000 you could have a new Yamaha 150 2-stroke. It depends on what the 2004 Johnson motor sells for, I guess...

i had no idea new motors were that inexpensive. i never realy dared to look i guess.

was this motor realy $12000 new?

Yea list price maybe, never sold for that much. But I will tell you they are great motors, very reliable but if I did not have the money for an etec or hull that would handle a 4 stroke it would be the yammie 2 stroke period.
The dealer where my friend just bought his 2550 maycraft had three gorgeous boats in the yard, new for sale with ox66 yammie two strokes on them. I asked why he powered them with the older design engines, he said that the pro fisherman down there won't go out with the new tech engines, he said they want one engine and one engine only and that is the one that has served them for many many years reliably, the yammie two stroke. I thought he was BS'n me but he told me two of the three were sold as soon as he ran an add in the paper with the 0x66 info on them and had the third one being sea trialed the same day we were there.

Willy,

My shop said the exact thing. I've been an OMC guy my whole life but my mechanic said a two stroke carbed yamaha is the way to go. He said the ox66 is the motor to get. When my 175 Johnson blows up, I'll probably go Yamaha on his recommendation.

I think the OX66 are fuel injected, right? He said they are as reliable a power plant that has ever been made, the guys that make their living going anywhere more than a few miles off shore don't want anything else, I asked aqbout the ETEC he said some are doing them but they don't have a big track record and thats what these guys want to see. Personally I think the ETEC is going to replace them due to sound and fuel effiecency, if not for the gas prices I think the OX66 would just stay on top because of the Yamaha reliability track record for decades now.

The OX66 is a standard style fuel injection system that injects the fuel behind the butterfly's. It is still an engine that could be run without oil injection. You could pre-mix your fuel if you had to with an OX66, you can't with a HPDI,OPTIMAX or ETEC. If you have an oil injection problem with a direct injected engine, your dead in the water(or idling according to BRP).

THIS SUCKS. first, i knew i wanted an etec this winter, but this comes along and gets me too drooling. then you guys start talking yamaha, wich we had on all our work boats when i was a land surveyor for the coe, and you couldnt break those things. we put them thrue hell every day with almost no failures. but i figured they were too expensive. saving fuel justifies the expense (in my mind) for the etec.

now my wife, who just got home last nite, walks in here and asks wat i'm doing. long story short, she says if i want it, and i think we can afford it, GET IT.

WELL HELL YEAH I WANT IT. just dont think i should empty the savings account while work has been so slow lately. but, HELL YEAH I WANT IT.

see what happens when you get married and have a kid! instant pussification! 5 years ago i would be out on the gulf with my new omc 150 drinkin beer and cruizin with a boat load of super models.

Your a good man Twisted. You know you'd have guilt with the "GET IT" scenario. I'm an engineer in south Louisiana where work ISN"T slow, but I'd still have intestinal distress dropping that amount of $$ on a new etech.
