New tow vehicle

Last week the transmission went on the '88 Chevy Silverado. I decided it's time for an upgrade and I went out and did my part to stimulate the economy. Here's the new tow vehicle I picked up last night. 2003 Dakota, 4.7l V8, 39,000 miles.

Looks sharp. I used to pull mine with a 95 Dakota with a 3.9 V6, so that should more than get the job done. Congrats.

Nice! I got an 01 quad cab just like it. Shes got plenty of grunt and tows my 18 pretty good.

Wish mine had those low miles on it though. LOL

I've got almost 44K on my 00 now. That 4.7L won't hardly know the V's back there, but I wouldn't tow in OD. Mine does a good job towing my HYDRA-SPORTS, and it's heavier than a V-20. And if you don't mind a little extra noise, swap out the exhaust on it and she'll wake right up on ya even more. I've got a K&N filter and a IMCO exhaust with a MAGNA-FLOW muffler in mine and it will flat MOVE. It also helped in towing as towing my HYDRA-SPORTS in 3rd she only wanted to do 58-60 without kicking out of lock-up, now I can run 80 in 3rd and lock-up. Chances are good to that your 03 has 3.92 rear gears as in 03 they had the 5 speed tranny whereas mid 02 and older only had the 4 speed single over-drive. I have the older model with 3.54 gears. It also get you some decent milage if you can stay out of the throttle. I drove about 250 miles TUESDAY and averaged almost 19 MPG according to the overhead keeping her under 62, and 55 will get me a shade over 20 MPG.

Mine, exhaust is different now though:sly:.

Hey Stink no Yankee here born an bred south of the Mason Dixon and a Hemi driver LOL.

But I do work a half mile from the line some of it must be wearing off. Looks like I need to be more careful. HaHa

The "cap"...WTF is a "cap"? LOL

Its called a camper you Yankees! A cap goes on your head. :nut:

That's funny. Well whatever you call it, it came with the truck. After reading FERM's post I was curious exactly what else this truck came with had so I sent an email to Dodge and here's what they said.

Looks like you have the same gear's in the rear that mine has, but you have the shorter later model metric sized tires. Should still get some better milage than mine though with the 5 speed auto. Unfortunately for me 01-02 can be updated to the extra overdrive, but 00 is an oddball and cannot be upgraded to the extra OD. Just make sure to push the OD off button before towing and have at it. And if you don't mind ahving her growl at you when you get on it, put a MAGNAFLOW muffler on it with the stock pipes. It made a HUGE difference in mine, you'd be surprised at how restrictive the stock muffler really is.

Stock 4.7L with just a MAGNAFLOW muffler.
