Got the motor to fire and it runs ok. Question is this. Im only getting a trickle of water out he back... Any thoughts?

also what should my idle rpm be?

Hey, you're making some good progress down there Craigan!

Some motors "pee" stronger when in the water, but it could also be that the water pump propeller needs to be replaced. I don't know when the previous owner changed it out last, so you may want to check to see if it's worn out or not. Seeing as how you live close to the water, I'd first start her at the launch and see if it's stronger in that situation.

As for RPM's, I can't recall what they should be for idle, but that is also something that should be set in the water and in gear, which can also be done at the launch site with the boat remaining on the trailer.

Keep up the good work buddy!

First thing is to check the tell tale hoses and the tee inside for a mud dobber or some kind of blockage. An impeller is cheap insurance, as well as vernotherms and diaphrams for the T-stats. Idle must be set in the water with the boat sitting in the water at resting water height. It should be roughly 600-750 in gear. Idle out of the water could be anywhere from 1000-2300 from what I have seen of them, no 2 are alike.

Check the outlet, too

Hey Craigan,
I know it's simple, but remember to just stick a wire up the exit tube. It's the first, simplest thing to do. Mine was trickling once just after splash in June, and that did the trick. Thing ran like a dream all summer. Sometimes it was a bad dream...

It's a 1991 225 Evinrude. Gonna check the tubes tomorrow! Hoping to put fish in her before the season is over...
