YES. I love them. I use a 4/0 or 5/0 reel with 60 pound test tied directly to the lure with no weight on a heavy 50 lb rod as they will generate a LOT of pressure if you pull them around 6 to 7 hundred RPMS. Down here in Beaufort NC stripers like the baby dolphin green and red and white color. I've only used the 25's as we are usually only in 22 to 25 feet of water and they will dig the bottom if you speed up but they are probably only running around 16 or 17 feet . I used to use 40 pound test but the albacore and big amberjacks hit them like freight trains and break the line so I went to 60. Some guys fish the rock jetties and shoals with casting reels with 20 lb test but its a workout. IF I were drifting along with live eels I would drop down to 20 but the 25's just put too much pressure on the line somewhat like a number 3 planer.As a matter of fact I am now working on my secret deep water wreck weapon which will include a stretch 25. A dive captain friend of mine found a old shrimper in 64 feet of water that was more than likely an old insurance job that holds huge kings and amberjacks but you cant get a bait to them as it also holds some 8 to 10lb blues, barracuda etc. My plan is to put 200 lb cable on one of my old Penn 600 downriggers with a commercial number 6 or 7 planer to get it down 40 feet or so then have the 25 running another 20 feet deeper on about 50 feet of line and hopefully it wont trip the planer. If it does I will use a 10lb planer ball and use the outrigger drag as my fish strike indicator...Frank
 
They work great, I used to run pull them behind wire, spool the reel with some dacron, then 150 feet of wire and use a big swivel then 50 lb mono to the stretch. The wire cuts r=the water better so there is a little less pressure on the rod and reel. If you rig a couple of reels like that you can also "wire line" for them. At the end of the wire you use a 3 way swivel. use 10lb mono on one side hooked to a big weight, upto a pound, and then run about 15 to 20 feet off the last swivel and slow trool a big bucktail or swimmin shad. If you get snagged it will break off the big weight but save the rest of the rig. It'll drag it right on yhe bottom. I used to fish the Chesapeake bay, ocean side of the third island about 30 feet of the west end of that island is a drop off and hole. I used to get my limit of strippers in an hour with 4 guys on the boat.

Turbo, they work great but watch em close. They been known to tangle everything in site. I usually pull one behind the spread where its a little safer.

I've fished the 30's almost esclusively over the past 3 years in 30 - 70 ft of water and they do the trick at 4 - 6 knots.

And yes, they will tangle everything so you gotta be careful and stagger the lines accordingly so that your turns will go smoothly. Also, I actually fish them on 35 - 30 lb test on a TLD 20.

Not only that but from what I've read they've been known to take tuna, wahoo, king macks, grouper.....

Pretty cool lures IMHO!
 
They are lures. They come in different sizes. The number denotes how deep they run. The deeper ones are usually larger but you can get the large ones that run shallow too. Stripers LOVE em!

Stretch 25's will dive down between 20 - 30 ft depending on lb test and how much line you let out. The 30's will run from 25ft to 35ft +.

The redhead and green baby dolphin are the deal down here in beaufort but I am sure if you can find the fish they will hit any of them. If you use smaller line they run deeper but I hate losing them to big albies and amberjacks so I use 60 test ..I've also heard that black fins and yellow fins will hit em..Frank
 
O I C, I figured they were a lure of some type but wasn't sure if it was a rig, like a umbrella.

No problem Sean. The only thing I don't like is the price. They aren't real cheap so taking Frank's advice with the 60lb might be a good idea ;).

Thanks for all the advice guys. I will be using 50# braid and the new rod and reel that I got along with some other older stuff.

I understand that 50# braid is the same diameter as 12# mono but has a higher breaking strength than rated for . The 50# usually holds to around 64#. According to the acticle that I read.
