Hi guys my old man is loosing himself to Dementia dont no what to do as theres not much i can do but only watch him fade away i think this is one of the cruelest illness there is around for love ones he always looks happy and i find it hard to keep my head up when i see him totally think life is F----D what else has life got installed for us all ---Now i sort of understand people who drink alot and do drugs to clould out the real life we live in

Sorry to hear that Aussie. I am currently battling this with my mom. I agree, it is one ****ty illness and very difficult to watch it happen to a family member.

I lost my dad to Alzhiemers back in 2000. Watched him fade for 10 years. I can share your pain better than most. The problem with drinking and drugs is that when you stop, the problem is still there. It really doesn't help. The best you can do is confront the problem and do the best you can do to make him comfortable. You have my heatrfelt simpathy and condolances my friend. Cam, this goes for you also. Very sorry to hear of your mom's illness.

Sorry to hear guys!! I have a different issue with my dad, he was here for a week he went homd today. We had a ok time, but he was here to fish, we got out just once. He broke his neck 20p years ago and has had many surgerys since. On top of that he just turned 75 years old, he is sharp as a tac, but remembers all the fishing things he use to do. he barely reel up a 5 oz sinker never mind a fish. He was happy but today on the way to the bus, he stated he was glad to go but was and is really depressed he could not do what he wanted as far asd reeling in fish, and the amount he did.
I said don't worry about it, you got out, caught fish and spent time with me your sonand my daughter your granddaughter!! There are others that have less issues then you and never get to do anything!! He felt a bit better after that! He will be back next year God willing!!!

thanks guys for your comments just have to carry it with all the other bull**** and maybe find out when my time comes WHY IT SO

Aussie, based on my grandparents, my parents and myself all are headed for the same fate provided something else doesn't get us first. Watching my grandparents getting eat up with it has led me to spend alot of time researching potential cures. I have to say some treatments are looking very promising.

Australia has there own set of drug companies enrolling people in trials all the time trying to find a cure. Look through the list and see if any are feasible for your situation.
