Just a rant at 4 in the morning

In a previous thread that I chimed in on I mentioned punctuality in the self employed trades., so I'm in the middle of a little project in my own home. I have every piece of furniture from 4 bedrooms stacked up in my kitchen as I'm having all the bedrooms hallway and living room and dining room floors refinished. Now my floor guy is really at the top of the heap when it comes to workmanship he really pulls out all the stops ,and the finished product is second to none! Now I of course set my schedule up around his start date, now Here's the rub , he never showed on the start date, never called to say he'd be starting a day late which is totally understandable because let's face it we all know crap happens on an everyday basis and you run behind rite.. but for the love of Pete pick up the damn phone and let me know what's happening. Ok so he shows the next day and proceeds to look for the house key that I had texted him not once but TWICE is in the receiver of the trailer hitch on the little Ford Ranger in the driveway. I come to find out he left because he couldn't find the the key because he was looking for the key in the truck bed amongst all the wood scraps, He's just killing me !! Now my house happens to be a leagal mother daughter and I moved my wife and I into the apt while the Reno has been going on so we're really not put out much, but he doesn't know that! I just wonder how much better he would be doing in business if his communication skills were better. I'm just that guy that calls a costumer if I am going to be litteraly one minute late , I know how crazy busy everyone is these days and a costumer that's sitting wondering where you are and panicking over knowing now they are going to be late for work or any other appointments they mite have is very very bad and sets a bad tone rite off the Batt. Hahaha just a rant it seems normal today!! But the floors are spectacular!!!!!

agree especially when you meet your commitment to him by moving all your stuff out of his way so he can do his job. That requires coordination and maybe a touch better communication. Like why didn't he call you when he could not find the key?

Blue Runner, to say nothing of the fact that I worked two nights till midnight getting the doors off, getting all cable wires off the floor closet organizers out and so on ,,, iwould have been able to space it out a little better if I just got a simple call, and lets face it everyone you look at has that frigging phone stuck to there face anyway lol

you need to be down here after the hurricane. it s the wild wild west. i m self employed in the service industry. i am currently working as a sub for 2-3 days a week, on my own stuff 2-3 days a week and trying to service my customers 2-3 days a week. as you can see, there ain t enough days in a week to please everyone. i hate to tell someone i ll be there and then no-show. i always call when possible.

but hey, if thats the only problem with your project, your golden

I wonder if he'd be as agreeable if YOU were a few days late paying him when the job is done? Just sayin' What goes around comes around. :head:

Phat , I hope things get less stressful for ya, Paul, he Would probably have a dim view of that !! But the thing is I am wrapped a little tight rite now as I myself am trying to get all my commitments filled before Aug 9th when I'm scheduled for my back surgery . I'm working 7 days and late hours so honestly I'm very easily irritated! And this project is the biggest as I'm going to be locked in this house for what I'm told is at least 2 months while I recover from the surgery, and I know I'll just be looking at all the things I need to do around here and that mite prompt me to do things I shouldn't or am not ready for. They will be going in through my Stomach and then in through my Back, that must be like having a sizerien section with a side of back surgery .so as I said above I'm just easily irritated rite now.and I know I must be walking around like a Bear with a soar foot because my wife is calling me darling and dear every time she has something to tell me ..need to dial it down a notch, but any way the floors are amazing, the color couldn't be more spot on the workmanship is flawless and I'll have to just move onto the next rant hahaha, hope everyone has a great day ahead!!

John, my son had extensive back surgery after his motorcycle accident. They had to put a Titanium cage around his spinal cord in several places.
Took him about a month to recover and maybe another month to really recover so the estimate about 2 months for you is probably spot on. I highly recommend laying in a years supply of Playboy mags and stuff like that... Might as well be occupied instead of just laying there.

Paul they are actually telling me 3 months, but I say 2 because I'll just be locked up in this house for the first 2, I'm just curious is your son able to or still riding?? On Long Island I know several people who have givin up riding as Long Island has gotten to be no different traffic wise than NYC.and that's not to mention your truly putting your life in the hands of all the kids texting and driving,I recently had a girl texting take off my mirror, I was sitting at a light watching her and their was nothing I could do but lean my body toward the passenger seat and hope for the best. Had I been on a bike it mite have been bad!!! I think I may have just found my next rant!!! Seriously though, it's so sad but it's just not safe to ride now. Glad your son is ok .

Hey John. Yes, he's still riding. Had to get a new bike of course, then basically rebuild it from scratch. (Not that anything was wrong with it to begin with, it was just not cool enough. LOL He lives in Mesa, Az, so the traffic is not as bad as NY/NJ... in fact, when he had his accident he was virtually alone on the highway, out in the desert, going to meet my sister (his aunt) who lives in SF. He had a new tire on the back, and pushed the bike too fast, it went squirrely and threw him. He has his good days and bad, but he's still working and still riding. And I totally agree with you about the new crop of drivers (and some not so new) that don't seem to be able to keep the GD phone away from their eyes for more than 10 friggin seconds. You're gonna be fine. Might even take you fishing later this year.
