ignition system update question

My '89 165hp (3.7l 4cyl) I/O needs a new coil. I thought I would upgrade and get rid of the points / condensor system for a more modern and reliable breakerless type system. I'm looking for suggestions. Anyone have any experiance with this?

Rick, there have been some "dead-on" ignition upgrades here ... since I'm outboard, I don't remember specifics, but a couple of the I/O guys have made this improvement...hopefully they'll be along to give ya the specs ;) ...

I thought I was going to have to replace mine earlier and when I checked into it Mallory will take your old distrbr and convert it over to electronic for about $70.

Look them up on the net.

Thanks guys. It's too cold out now, but when the weather warms up and I get out to work on the boat I'll let you know how it goes (with pictures of course)
