My 73 engine cover has a foam backed lead sheet liner, was that standard? obviously it adds a lot of weight and i am planning on removing it. I am just wondering if anyone has encountered this and if there was a significant noise increase. thanks.

My 77 has a foam filled type of insulation with a foil backing. I need to replace mine too. Ive seen something at Lowes that looks about the same that I might try.

I have replaced a few in my time , make sure what you use is fire retardent , some things can burn if your flame arrester doset work properly

There are reasons for the lead lined insulation... noise, fire resistance, and vibration. Like Smoke said, it does an excellent job of noise suppression, and a tolerably good job with the others. Keep it if you can. It hurts nothing, and helps a lot.

thanks for the input everyone.I will leave it be for now. I may recore the cover with divynicell next year as it has a weak spot and see how the lead holds up when i remove it.
