does your I/O deck drain out the side??? or does it drain into the bilge??? I was looking at your gallery and it appears yours drains out the port side???

mine drains into the bilge and I hate it >:( :-/
 
My scuppers in my 1991 I/O cuddy drain out both the port and starboard sides. Now if only I could figure out where my fish box is supposed to drain--right now it does not drain anywhere!
 
So is the floor on your boat above the water line???

I dont think mine is???

althought my boat is a 84. maybe they raised the floor? :-/ after that???
 
Yes, I think they raised the floor. The drains are right at the water line. When I back off the throttle and come down off the plane, or when there are waves, I ocassionally get a little water up through the scuppers.
 
Mine too. I have an 86. I plan to install those scuppers with the flapper in them to prevent water from coming in, but allowing water to flow out...
 
The deck drains to the outside and the bilge. There are drains at both rear corners of the deck as well as a narrow channel along the transom that starts at the corner drains and slopes towards the engine area and drains into the bilge. Judging from the water that you can see in the drain, I would say the deck is about 1 - 1.5" above the water line at rest. This means any water that comes in the drain can run down the channel and right into the bilge. I have found that I get less water in the bilge by keeping the deck drains plugged. I know pictures would help. Maybe this weekend.

Here's the port side through hulls. The forward one is the deck drain, the aft one is far the well under the hatch in the transom.

Here are the starboard side drains, the lower one is the deck drain. The larger of the upper ones is for the bilge pump, the smaller one is for the pump in the fish box in the deck between the front seats.

thanks for the info. mine does not look like yours??? what year is yours? mine deck drains go straight into the bilge? :-/ I will take some photos this weekend ;)

Mine is an 84 that drains out the sides, but it is an outboard model.

I am going to try something different this winter because this set up does not work very well at rest in any kind of seas. More water comes in than goes out.

Yeah Randleman, I am afraid if I did what you got going, it would be the same outcome. I guess I will just leave her alone and rely on the bilge pump :-/ for the rain storms
 
I like the drain scuppers that Randleman found, but trying to cut a hole so close to the floor, what tool would ya use. ??? ??? ??? ???
 
I am thinking a hole saw, but do it from inside/out so you can get it right at floor level. Probably measure and drill a pilot hole from the outside first to make it easier.

Any other thoughts?

that is how I would do it, but good luck getting the drill in there ::)
 
Mine's an '89. With those drains so close to the waterline its way to easy for water to come up the drain and run down the channel and into the bilge. A reliable bilge pump and a well charged battery is a must!
