headed out for a three day

Leaving tomorrow with my wife for a short vacation in New Orleans, my sister is driving down from Raleigh to watch the girls so me and my wife can get away for the weekend. We usually try to get away some where around our anniversary, but we had to take this place when it was available. Any digestions on must see?

If its like it was 2 years ago, avoid the west side of New Orleans. NOT a great neighborhood where even the cops didn't want to go.

We were there last spring just for one night. It was recommended to go to:

Acme Oyster House
724 Iberville St
New Orleans, LA 70130

The line was out the door and down the street so we opted for somewhere else. That was at prime lunch time. I would have liked to check that place out. It's just down the street from bourbon street.

Have a great trip!

Rue Burbon during the day is tame enough. Go plop $100 down at Harrah's, you never know, you might hit it big and get a room comp. :sun: Keep the wife outta the antique shops... Lots of courtyard dining there, great food..

went there, did it, probably won't go back. could have done the same thing(but better) in Charleston without the smell, homeless guys every where, the shake down tap dancers, and yes, i got crappy food at a place called Franks. Seems like Nola has been taken over by transplant Long Islanders, at least every one I ran into sounded like they were from there. I got tired of being asked if I wanted to buy a ticket or tour package from the Jersey Shores parents(too much makeup and too many pall malls). I actually don't think I ran into or spoke to a straight, white(including cajun), native person from NO. Plenty of freaks to look at though, some of them didn't realize they were freaks. Oh well, lesson learned

PS, I did find oen thing i really liked... Abita Amber, no its not a stripper, its a beer!

well I've taken the bypass around N.O. several times because I never had time to stop.... now I don't feel so bad... Sorry you didn't enjoy your trip tho.

That report kinda sucks Spare, and the food wasn't even good? Hell I stopped at a fuel station in NO and got a shrimp po-boy that I was jazzed about. Daytime NO is tame enough for family, there must not be a lot of tourist if they were overselling and panhandling. The girls pimping shooters were always overworking it but then who minds that? It is a bit of a game just people watching.. the smell of urine in the streets I could do without..

Bummer about your trip. We were there for one afternoon\night before our cruise, and yes, that was enough for us. We did however have some great food, but it was one of Emerils places and was ridiculously expensive.

Don't recall it smelling bad or being hit up excessively for anything.

Obviously there are many people who love that bourbon street scene, It was cool to see and be able to walk around with drinks, but yes, now I can also say, been there did that.

I havent been around here much so I didnt see your thread but could have warned you. IMO NO is highly overated. Just like you said, it smells, its muggy and not at all what it was 10 years ago to me.

The aquarium and zoo are pretty cool but thats only because we dont have many down this way. You passed more/better ones on your way south. The wife and I went to NO for our honeymoon 14 years ago and had fun but now we spend our time/$$ in Biloxi. Lot cleaner, closer to home and nice area.
