i recently acquired a 77 v20. the motor is out and the stern drive is of beings i had a stern drive before thats easy for me it the motor that has me stumped and ot looks like the rear spot for the bottom of the bell housing to bolt to up to is missing if any one has a similar boat or knows where where a picture of the motor mouted up is that would help me out to get this project started

Assuming an Alpha 1...

There should be a housing assembly there that would have 4? bolt holes which the motor would mount to.

You also may want to get a shop manual for your motor and outdrive...I could never survive without one...

rkc

if i did it right theres a pic of where the motor goes there should be a spot for two bolts to mount to floor but it looks like theres something missing i see the two for the front and the two on the transome and where can i get a manual at been to a few places around here and they couldnt help me

I've read the initial post four or five times, and have looked at your pic, I still don't understand what you're talking about

There are four bolt holes on my motor two in front motor mount two in bottom of bellhousing two that go to transom that are in top of bellhousing I see no where to mount the ones in the bottom rear

Never mind prob gonna get rid of it guy wants 1200 to put in missing beam or whatever he called it to where thebottom rear of motor mounts to has a straight six never ran and rebuilt out drive yall tell me y'all are the experts

I know what you are talking about now, the two holes in the bottom of the bell housing on the motor, they don't bolt to anything, they are there for assembly on the line and crating. You're not the first to question them

Thanks spareparts the guy was an idiot trying to get money for nothing I appreciate the help betting motor in before the hurricane comes

thats correct they don't use those bolt holes located at the bottom of your bell housing in your application.merc uses only the two located about the center of the bell housing.
if you keep your v-20 am sure you will check back to this site because their are a couple of cracker jack mechanics here. that are always willing to share helpful info:fight:

Thanks again I sure will be back I love the way this boat looks I got it from a guy that traded my trade of work for the boat and I know nothing about it but what I've heard and read but after joining here I think I have a very nice boat even if it needs a lil work

Truth is, you lucked into one of the best boats ever built in it's class and size. The fact that it also looks awesome is just gravy. It's got a huge cockpit, great handling. cuts through the seas nicely, and will get you out and more important, will get you back home again. Welcome to the site.
