Got a lot done in 19 day's

Despite being down with divarticulates for 2 weeks and a bout with a nasty uper respitory infection, I made some real progress on the V .

1) bought a 10' x 20' tent from a neighbor who bought it new in MAY for her daughters graduuation, she paid $219 for it , I got it for $65

2) got the full camper top re-fitted and mounted with all new zippers and hardware

3) removed the old rusted and loose 1/4" bow eye, replaced it with a much larger 1/2" S.S. one . I had to epoxy the old holes and put 6 layers of glass and mat down first, then made a 1.5" thick V block and glassed that in. then a 3/8" aluminum backing plate . Then bolted it all in . ( real solid now )

4) removed & replaced the old gas tank sending unit, installed new wireing and drained the old gas from last fall. I figured the gas wasnt realy bad because I treated it good in DEC. so I used my 1200 GPH fuel pump and put it in my truck. ( waste not want not )

5) mounted my aux. motor mount to the transom , useing 1/4" aluminum diamond plate both sides (solid)

6) removed all the old decals and buffed out the boat and waxed her ( hardest job yet) She came out looking real shiney. ( new decals go on this weekend)

7) last I removed all the old caulk under the rub rail ( what a mess ) I was going to replace the rail , but not much time left OH and yea not enough $ either , will do that during the winter storage , Any way I must be watching to much TV , because insted of useing 5200 , I grabed a can of FLEX SEAL (handy man in a can) you all know this stuff pushed on late nite TV . Well to my surprice this $hit realy works well. and not as hard to clean up as 5200 , but it will sufice till I replace the rail

Well I think thats it for now, I have some realy cool graphix coming for the name on the side of the boat will post them once installed

Grey, that's some nice work you're doing. I especially liked the care and thoughtfullness (is that a word?) that you used in changing out that bow eye. Nice job!!! And thanks for the boat porn... love it!!!

Thanks Guys it's a labor of love , my wife say's I am a perfectionest , guess she's wright. At the rate I am going it might hit the water late fall . but at least Ill look good fishing in my survival suit with ice in my beard LOL

If using in choppy waters.....2'-3' waves etc I suggest trim tabs.

Makes a BIG difference - pounding vs not.

Nice rig, great work and good luck with it.

Yea I hear you , I asked the wife for some tabs for an early XMAS presant , I even got her some flowers and still NO TABS :head:

Wolf yer hard work has paid off...she sure looks great!!...can't wait to see new graphics!!...

Greene's right about the trim tabs, but they'll come in time...enjoy til then!!

Yer REELY gonna enjoy that full enclosure when the thermometer starts droppin' this Fall...I call those SEASON EXTENDERS cuz that's what they do...amazing how well those tops hold heat from a small propane heater...Boat $$ well spent there!!...

Great PICTURES!!...keep 'em comin'!!...:nic:

Lot's more done shake down tomorow afternoon

Well I got the rest of my (PRE-SHAKE DOWN LIST) acomplished today, and I am taking the (NAUTI BUOY) out tomorow to CONGAMOND lake for some trial runs , will post photos of that tomorow night, but here is what has been done since last post.

1) replaced the old fuel filler cap and vent (both were SHOT and the hull needed glass repair were they were.) Also since the prievious owner had replaced the fuel tank but not the lines a month before I bought her I changed them also.

2)I was tired of rain leaking into the cabin thru the anchor line cap so I went to HOME BOY DEPOT got some 6" pvc pipe with ennd flanges , some pvc contact cement and WALA now the water runs straight into the anchor rode locker and out to the bilge. I also thought that the rode locker needed some work so I re did it also ( resin and new piaint )

3) I had redone the teak wood a while back on the bow slide hatch cover but I decided to and more lacquer and put some tefalon film under the hatch to make it slide better and seal it .

4) AND NOW THE DECALS AND GRAFIX ARE ON !! I have a great sighn shop very close to my home , and they are GREAT Linda has been doing my rebuild boats for years now and she never stops to amaze me with what she can do from my simple ideas, let me know what you all think about the name and custom decals. I also was lucky when I went to register her I was able to get a set of #'s the work on the boat
MS 2084 VE since its an 84 20' v I think it works

5) also to any one having problems using 3M 5200 Try using this I can clean up my hands and tools ect. Its the only thing I have found that works

Lookin' good, Man..lookin' good...

looks good, gw. this is what i did to funnel the water from the deckpipe to the bilge

a piece of 4" drain pipe, but yours looks a lot better, so now i guess i have to re do mine.

:head: Why change what works, I took your idea from your pic's and just modified it to my use, I have an old windlass off my old 28 ' BAYLINER CONTESSA that will work with that pipe configuration I made . but I never would have thought about doing it without your post with the photo of the drain pipe you used . I think we all can benifit from les water in our stabin cabin's Thanks for the great idea

Damm no shake down

sorry but there are no shake down photos ! They will come later this week , I found some problems after replacing the fuel tank filler & vent hose's . After removing the gas tank hatch cover I noticed a lot of glass damage , and not being one who just does a tempory fix I rebuilt all the sealing surfaces on the deck and hatch. Then 5200'rd and screwed them into place and coated the top with my new friend (FLEX SEAL) and tomorow I will paint the deck with non skid paint , It seams like every step forward I make I take 2 back ( SOUND FAMILIAR) any way NAUTI BUOY will hit the water this week by hell or high water with photos . OH and by the way any one got any pirate stuff there looking to get rid of ??

ALMOST DONE OOPS forgot new thermastats Sh!TTT

Well the shake down cruise didn't leave the dock !! temp. alarm was going off , DANG IT I rememberd I forgot to put in the new thermastats on my work bench . ( haste makes waste) so back to the driveway, and guess I orderd the wrong ones , Well there went 4 days so I went on to some other things on my to do list.

1) Sanded down the deck and degreased it , then 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of nonskid paint (in oyster white)

2) Then I removed the old rope in the rub rail. It was a big mess came out in tiny pieces (realy rotted) then I replaced it with new black rope , The job was made a lot easier for one person ME !! using JIG-A-LOO lubricant and a large screwdriver & channel locks

And then I stoped for lunch YUMMMMM

3) last I replaced some old wooden pieces with new wood ,
