Glassing Oil pans

A friend of mine who is a commercial lobsterman told me that you can glass an oil pan. My inline 6 has a few prior repairs on it with jb weld and since i have the motor out i plan to address the issue. Oil pans are no longer available for the 165hp inline. I have seen some used ones for $150 plus but they may be no better than what i have.
Anyone have any info on glassing an oil pan,or thought to if it would hold up,thanks.

I don't think glassing it would be feasible. The heat would just eventually cause the glass to break away. Just my opinion based on thought, I've never personally tried it. I would pull the pan and get any damage welded. Then paint it with a good 2k paint.

Yes its the mercruiser GM 4.1. Thanks for the links smokeonthewater, that does seem to be the engine designation in the links you added but the profile of the pan i have does not match the pic in the o reilly link.

I wouldn't put too much on the oreilly link... it also lists the pan to fit v8's which obviously have a different pan... if the sump position is different than your existing pan you would have to get the proper pick up tube ... ALSO look at dipstick provisions.... I think you probably need to contact a tech at pioneer and or actually put your hands on the pan to know for sure.

yes that's the right pan,its been on ebay for a while, when you figure in the shipping it just seems like a lot of money to me for a used pan.
Dude, it's like a hen's tooth. If you haven't seen one before, and you've seen one now, buy it. Vintage parts never come cheap
