Just installed my B-Day gift and I might go out later on today. For sure, tomorrow. After having my electronics stolen, I came up with this set-up. It's sometimes a hassle to remove and install the four screws, but it allows me to bring the electronics inside.

Looks good, but I would add 2 more screws to the center of the plate to keep it from vibrating underway. And keep us posted on that there FURUNO, I'm going to hopefully step up soon and get some good electronics. Still trying to decide what though.

MC, nice set up! Do you have yours connected to the chart plotter? A chart plotter & bird radar combo is next on my list. Could not go out today, but tomorrow is a go. The whole family wants to go to a sand bar off Elliot Key and bar-b-q, so not sure I will be doing much fishing but it will be a nice family day.:sun:

no mine is a stand alone, I have been thinking of radar , but I really don't need it at this point and i think i will get more use from a enclosure first.

How much for one of those units fellas? My 1985 model King 1060 started coughing sparks and smoke a couple of days ago. Guess it's time for a new one? LOL

$600 for the 620 and I paid over $200 for the transducer, I got the Airamar tilted thur hull ducer, what a pain that was to get in!! CB and I looked like we took a bath in 5200

They've went up a bit in price MJ, cheapest I have found is $819 with a transom mount transducer. I was going to go with a GARMIN combo, but they're just to much money. So then I looked at a LOWRANCE, and have heard NUMEROUS horror stories with LOWRANCE and problems. I checked with SI-TEX and they're willing to cut me a killer deal, but it won't do everything I want. FURUNO is a top of the line machine so I think I'm going to go with a FURUNO 620 for a bottom machine and interphase it to a NORTHSTAR 550I external antenna and a fuel flow sensor added on for real time fuel milage. It's only gonna cost me about a $100 more than a combo and it will do everything I want without having to add in a NMEA2000 network. Plus if I upgrade to a larger boat with my 315HP MERCRUISER, the NORTHSTAR will interphase with the SMARTCRAFT ECM.

So how about some reports on that there 620 on the water.

I have not gave it a good test to say much yet, I still trying to learn how to use it all. But so far what I have seen works great! 35 knots and not a skip reads steady as a rock! But I did see fish on it and I caught fish so that says something!
As I get going I will see what she will do and I will fill you in.

I like it - I like it! Used it yesterday for the first time and learning how to use it. Didn't fish but did some cruising with the family. Impressed with it's color display and the ability to hold a steady bottom at 30 mph. I got mine at the GPS Store for $698.95 plus $9.95 for 2 day UPS delivery. :sun:
