Fuel fill hose

Has anyone replaced the hose from the fill cap to the fuel tank? The hose is disintigrating where it connects to the tank top. I plan on replacing it. Has anyone done it? Any tips - tricks etc.

Thanks in advance.

I am about to, but my tank is out, hull gutted, and its empty...so mine shall be easier than yours. ;D

Just take out the in wall rod holder...it should be accessable enough then. 8)

what year is your boat?? were is the tank??

Mine is a 1975, I have side tanks. I removed the tanks and replaced all hoes and vents when I did mine. It was the only way to clean the fill neck on the tank good to get the new hose on.

Mine is a '78 and it has a centerline tank. Are these custom hoses or can you get it at any marine supply store?

I'm replacing the fuel fill on my 83 cuddy, center tank. The hose is pretty stiff, I accessed mine thru a deck plate in the gunnell, also pulled off the gas fill, You mah want to pull the gas tank hatch for more clearence. I pull it loose from the fill first, then the tank, I tape a piece of heavy cord to the hose before you pull it out so you can attach it to the new hose and pull it back through. You should be able to get the fuel hose - use the marine fuel hose - at any boat supply place

I just replaced mine (84 cuddy) and it wasn't too bad. Like Franco said pull the rod box and the deck over the tank and the inspection plate behind the fill. The hardest part was getting the old hose out, it was the orignal and very stiff. The new one went in easy because it was so limber. Make sure the fill neck on you tank is in good shape. On mine the steel wire in the hose was touching the aluminum tank an it ate holes in the neck.

hey i have a 78 too, great to meet you. great boat too. i trhink you have to take up the floor panel and inside the cabin remove the cover on the same side and you should be able to do it.i had mine replaced because the tank was leaking.if you have the old aluminum tank youy should think of replacing that also with a plastic one and chage your fuel line while your at it.good boat and good luck

Carl, the filler hose is purchased cut-to-lenghth from a marine supply store...is not custom made...suggestion; you probably don't wanna do this more often than you have to...buy the good stuff...the little bit of extra money you spend now will save doin' this again for a long time... ;) ;D...double-clamp (SS clamps) both ends of the hose... ;)...and while you got her open, check the ground wire from filler neck to tank...anti-poof ... :P...

I did the job yesterday. The fill hose had a 1978 date molded in it. Original equipment. I replaced the vent hose and also the hose from the tank to the engine. Now I am in the process of removing fuel from the tank. The boat sat for over two years with the fuel in her. I've pulled about 21 gallons so far and still have a fair amount more left. I found broken wires on the tank level indicator. And there was no ground wire going to the fill neck from the tank top. Is this somethng I can buy separately or does it come with a new fill neck? I didn't replace the fill neck, but now I am thinking I might have to. This is never ending - fun - but never ending.

Carl, good idea on the vent hose while you got her open... ;)...

The ground wire shoulda been there...two ring connectors and some 16ga. wire...run wire along filler hose to fill cap, crimp on connector and put it under filler cap on one of the thru bolts ...other end of wire to one of the screws holding the plate down where your fuel gauge connects...crimp on the other ring connector, put that screw thru it and back in the plate...zip-strap the wire as needed and you're grounded... ;)...
