fished the peconic bay w/ TheTinMan......somewhere between Greenport and Shelter Island. That whole area is hot right now for fluke , bass and blues. We were hunting fluke and as usual TTM hooks up first w/a nice 4 1/2lber 23" fluke [btw, New York regs are 21" min. and a bag limit of TWO...]Phester, as usual, is picking up shorts and a few sea robins mixed in. TheTinMan scores another 4-4 1/2lber but according to him I wasn't "johnny on the spot" w/ the net, fish gone. After a few choice words I feel a nice hit and set the hook. Felt like a bluefish, lotsa headshakin and strong pull, then it was just steady pull/weight. Get him toward the surface and see it's a nice fluke. TinMan bounces the net off the flukes nose and this fish just turns around and dives straight down peelin' line.....I get him up again and much unlike TinMan, he bounces the net off the fishes nose and the fish does another 180 and dissapears. He's still on the hook and by now I'm quite certain it's a quality fish after two runs. Third time on the net we get him in. Measured out 28" and a solid 8lbs. "ALMOST" a doormat size fluke and my personal best. The rest of the day was sorta quiet after that [????]
