Finally got to take out my new toy

Well Sunday I finally got to take out my new to me boat by myself to go FEESHIN out of the CHASSOHOWITZKA RIVER. Didn't do great, but not bad either. The wind was BLOWING(weatherman said 8 MPH with gusts to 12, more like 15MPH with gusts to 20), but it was out of the east so I was OK so long as I stayed in close to the islands. I managed to boat 3 speckled trout, a 15, 16, and 20 incher, but lost one that was a good 23 inches at teh boat in the net(got in a hurry and tried to net him to soon. He hooked the lure into the net, shook the lure free, and took off). Nobody to blame but myself for getting excited and losing the big fish of the day, but I got dinner and a day to myself. Hoping to get back out this weekend in Charlotte harbor. It's a bad weekend to be on the water, but my inlaws live down there so I can leave the wife and kids there and go out.

good job ferm, one fish i have always wanted to catch is a snook. your rig looks great for getting up in the mangroves to find them.

enjoy the trout

The old JOHNSON ran great, my MINN KOTA on the other hand was another story. The wind was blowing so hard I had to have a trolling motor to keep myself off the rocks and bars, and my foot pedal went out on me just after 1. I fought with it and got it to work somewhat, but had to manually turn it to steer(doesn't work to well with a power drive). I picked up a new pedal this week so I'm ready to go again. It is one shallow boat on the drift because of how wide it is. Need to find me a push pole to get up in the really shallow stuff.

We were up in the no water zones of the Chaz a couple years back. Tide was pushing us across the shallows. Sheapshead hit my jig in less than a foot of water. I swear the fish must have been laying on its side it was so shallow. Good to see you the other day. Your gonna enjoy this rig more than most.

Got to go out again today. This time in Charlotte harbor back behind Boca Grande. Came down to the inlaws, so I took off feeshin. Didn't do to well today. Ended up with just 2 smaller trout to bring home, so I gave them to somebody at the ramp because I didn't feel like cleaning 2 small ones at my inlaws(figure pay it forward, hopefully some day somebody will do the same for me). I caught a TON of trout, but most all of them were shorts. Several of which were bearly bigger than my ZARA SUPER SPOOK I was throwing at em. I also caught 3 slot legal size snook, but wouldn't you know the season ended May 1st for them. And of all things, I also caught 4 big channel cats throwing a ZARA SPOOK.

So I caught fish, and made it home. So it was a good day. Hopefully I can get out again in a few weeks, gotta get some money to go again.
