engine height

i acquired a bracket with 24" set back. what heights are ya'll runing. top hole of the bracket in correlation to the bottom of the boat?

You have to put the bracket on the transom according to what size shaft you are running.
As some one that has had a bracket on a V20 I would go with nothing less then a 25" shaft!!

You measure from the bottom of the boat up to were the motor will sit on the bracket. Some will tell you that you raise the motor up 1" for ever 12" back you go. I never did that and was fine. But in your case with a 24" set back that means 2" which isn't anything to worry about!
 
25" mid. i'll just take measurement off the boats in the show room and do some calculations from there. but the 2" for every foot is good info, thanks mj
 
Remember that for your bracket you will go up 27", but also rember that you measure from bottom of boat to were it sits on the transom, so don't forget to measure on the 2 or 3 inch lip of the bracket!!
 
If the bracket is the same angle as the transom, then the lift to set back ratio is built into it. So where it mounts to the transom should be 25" to the top of the bracket, and then your engine height per set back is already there. If your bracket is of a different angle, then it gets tricky.

Just a clarification. That's 1" for every foot, not 2"...

Also, the cavitation plate should line up with the very bottom of the hull...

The cavitation plate should be almost level to the bottom of the hull if your direct transom mounting without a prop pocket or step. If you have a bracket, then they say to go with the 12:1 rule. For every 12 inches back, you go 1 inch up. The thing is that almost all brackets come with that 12:1 built into them. This why the mounting pad for the engine is higher than where it mounts to the boat. Of course you can always run a surface piercing prop and then get the prop shaft running level to the bottom of the hull throwing the tail up for everybody.
