Carb rebuilt

I can’t find a quality or any mechanic that rebuilds carbs. I had one guy a real rip off said he rebuilt it but it didn’t work and charged me $500.00 it ran one day and had no5hing but problems. I did find a mechanic who would take them off and send them out. What’s the big problem with carbs? They say m6 engine is too old. But a carb is a carb. I would bet if spare was here he would have no problems rebuilding them and i5 would run perfectly. We need mechanics like Spareparts here in nj.

The new stuff is injected and all the new mechanics don't know how to work on them. The older mechanics are out fishin.

YouTube is very helpful in a situation like this. Also a service manual made by Mercury for your specific OB.

I’m pretty sure I could fix the carbs ,the problem I have is taking the off ( no problem) and reinstalling them. That’s the issue I think I would have.
Carbs look simple. Clean the passenges and new gaskets.

My son does some older car restoration (did an amazing build on an old 280Z). I learned from him to video the taking apart, along with some narrative - it’s surprising how good your memory can be about how to put something back together when you don’t have to remember how it came apart.

280 z is a nice car. My son had (2 ) 300 ZX. T.T. He sold the first one cause they said the turbo was leaking oil. Then he bought another one and if I was with him Ali would have told him to not buy it. He sold that one too. Great engine in it but it kept killing the battery. To complicated Very advanced. 4 wheel drive steering. And very fast. But we are not mechanics.

I6 MERCRUISER? 2BBL Rochester? About as easy as it gets. R&R? 4 Nuts on the base, one on the linkage,leave the linkage on the manifold, discone t at the carb,,hot tube or wire for choke. Takes me about 10 minutes to put on of those ba k together after it's cleaned up

I may be doing that on my 170 Mercruiser. It’s been sitting for a few years, and even though I had non-ethanol gas with Stabil in it, it’s probably needing cleaned out. Just need to find a choke for it, or a long cable to go manual.

I was wrong about that car, it was a 240Z, but ended up with a 280 engine, built from scratch & 5 speed. The electrical system was weird somehow and he built another separate system to beef it up and make it more conventional. I went for a test ride when it was done - that was fun - I don’t have a lot of excess hair, but it was blowing back.
