Capt Pete: THE Man!!

The man who tamed the Merc!!...

DSCN1670.jpg

Up and planed out, the Merc has been runnin' pretty good..but thanks to a mysterious LIGHT of the timing kind showing up here from Florida, courtesy of RidgeRunner(along w/a Clymer manual), Capt Pete laid hands on the Merc yesterday and NOW the Merc REELY purrs!!...perfectly RPMed at idle, stays running when popped outta gear approaching the dock, idles down for slow trolling and all...Pete is the real deal, no doubt...

He came down w/a sinus thing which prevented fishin' this morning and is on his way back home now, so we'll have to chase stripers on Lake Hartwell another day, but we did get to test run the boat after he dialed it in on Lake Bowen..

Travel safe, Pete...and come back whenever ya can!!...for friends like you, we're always open:clap:

thanks for the kind words Ozzie. I made it home without a problem. Got back around 6:30. you are a true friend, you opened your house to me as if I were family. I truely appreciated all of your hospitality. Any time you are up this way I would love to repay the favor and have you and the Mrs. at our house.

Glad ya made it home OK...you missed a great Groundhog Grunt last night...Good music, great food and more out in a wooded area, set up long ago for just that purpose...

Can't wait to take the boat out again now you've run all the gremlins away...might have an opportunity Tues or Wed...

You guys better get packin'!!...

I was starting to sweat the idle on that old girl. Flywheel cover helps tremendously on link-n-sink, otherwise your kinda guessing at the timing.. Glad it got sorted out. Not real bad on fuel either. Thanks Capt. Pete.

sounds like it was a good time. I still am fighting this cold. I think I'm slowly winning though. Hope you catch em up next time out.

Thats a good running motor Vic. Suprised the heck out of me when I pulled the cowling off. A mut motor kinda like mine, love it.

Whole things goes to show it aint what you know but who you know.

Yep....like the day your motor was spinnin' outta control...ain't you glad you knew Spareparts??......which brings up the real added bonus to this forum...we all know peeps thru WellcraftV20.com we would have never known w/out it...the common shared V20 experience is great stuff...but the friendships that have sprung up are priceless...

Pete, some of the best dogs I've had were mutts...and Vic's right...I don't have any fuel numbers, but from what I can tell, this mutt's no hog...

Ridge, I think Pete will agree...even he couldn't have dialed it in that close if you hadn't taken the initiative to ship the timing light and manual up here...onece again, THANKS Old Buddy...

And Spare, fret not...we put the timing cover on long enough to do the deal...the smiley face is still smilin'!!...

Stating the obvious, thats all. Being up front is the best policy.

No bad juju on that one. Besides

Frankenmotors never seem to blow. Those parts and pieces have already survived the test of time. Just a bugger if you need to order parts. Is it a '87 or a '97

Oh sh!t!!...thought it was a '88 on a '97!!...had 'er out yesterday...ran MILES up the Tugaloo...had two NICE stripes on...one spit the hook and the other went into the trees after about ten minutes of fight...taking out line at will...got 3 in the box to clean this morning...

I love my FrankenMerc!!......and AMAZED at miserly fuel consumption...:sun:

You need to switch to braid. no stretch. no worries.

Good call...Mike and I had discussion of spooling up some larger reels w/braid after losing those fish...it may be time, but old habits die hard...specially when you ARE an old habit!!...LOL!!...

I think I showed you the one an only (so far) rig I have braid on...Immediately noticed less stretch in working a top-water twitch-lure...less input...more action...me likey!!

learn to tie a uni knot, then learn to tie a uni to uni. After you get used to it, you won't have any problems. I use the uni to uni to attach a length of flourocarbn line to the braid, then you can use any regular knot on the flouro, if you're working a jig, tie a non-slipping loop knot at the jig, that way it will wiggle naturally

second the braid, got hooked on it speckeled trout fishing with live bait and use it on everything now. i use an albright knot to connect a mono leader.

welcome back to the world of yachting reel.
