Hi all I'm as of yesterday I'm two weeks out of surgery, doing pretty well, they cut me in front with about a 10 inch incision, then flipped me and made 2 incisions one on each side of my spine.i have big expectations like actually being able to use my boat again. I'll be home between 3 and 4 months which is going to drive me nuts but that's what I have to do!! Anyway hope you all are doing well.

hope it goes well with you. Don't rush it, I had to and went back to work way too soon(that whole working for your self thing getting in the way)

That's great new John. Glad the surgery went well. Like Spareparts said, don't rush it. There's plenty of pain free time when it's properly healed, and an equal amount of painful time if you rush it and screw up something before it's totally healed. I have it on good word that the fish have been around for thousands of years and will continue for quite some time into the future. They will wait for you. Glad you're on the road to recovery.:clap::clap:

Thanks guys, I am determined not to blow this, as hard as it is for guys like us to sit around and watch the grass grow I know I have no choice, David it's very clear in my mind how yours didn't go so well do to your going back so soon! As I've mentioned before I have 3 daughters and the furthest one is 11 blocks away and 2 of them are teachers so they are home for the summer, and it's quite clear that they have a secret schedule where they are spending a lot more time with dad this year until wifey gets home from work, so in short I'm under a close watch!! Paul i am so looking forward to getting back on my boat it's all I think about but I know I'm just going to miss the fall run and that's all there is to it !!

i was on my back for two weeks, the third week I was walking around a little, the fourth week I was working half days, the fifth week I was back to 10 hour days and pulling motors. Still feeling it

The day after my last post I developed this incredible nerve pain in my entire left leg and oh my God It was bad, they immediately sent me for a Doppler looking for a blood clot, none was found and the pain slowely went away, feeling great now only thing I'm on is Gabapentin a nerve med. I was cleared to start driving again so that helps ya to start feeling normal again and Pt starts in 2 weeks, for the 1st time in 22 years I'm pain free and standing straight up, my shoulders are level again I'm told by my wife. Don't know why I waited so many years to do this!!!

watch that Gabapentin, my daughter was on a form of that medicine for a while, made her a total ***** towards everyone(she was 4 at the time), if your wife says you're being an A hole, its probably the medicine

David, you may have hit the nail on the head, just yesterday she called me that in fact, and to think I spent the entire evening yesterday thinking it was because when she got home she found the newest Sea-Doo brochure on the kitchen counter and that I spent the better part of the afternoon at the local Sea-Doo dealership falling in love with one of the newer models, Well I'm glad we've gotten that cleared up! Hehehehe.

Glad to hear you're doing good! Take it easy though. Im going in Friday for another injection in my back, arthritis is my trouble. Got a 14 day shutdown coming starting the 15th. 12 hour days gonna kick my old butt! Good luck on your recovery!

Thanks cfelton, good luck to you as well!! 5 weeks out and I'm feeling like my self I think. Doing a rediculous amount of walking in the local parks, only the ones on the water of course! I just can't walk around my block anymore ,(I'd rather stick pins in my eyes !! ) Left foot is getting some minor swelling though.and I just got another dose of the gel injections in both knees day before yesterday, the pain is easing up in those a bit so that's a plus as well . Wife got me one of those grabber things because it's going to be another two weeks before I can BLT bend lift or twist, this thing is great ,it's crazy the things you can pick up with it, because believe me everything just falls on the floor it seems. Have a good weekend guys, hope everyone's getting some boating in before it gets to unpleasant.

Wellcraft20step,I just read your post, sorry I didn't respond sooner, I usually don't look past the repair section. I know that must suck staying home for three months but the time will fly by.now is a good time to go thru your boating supply's and your fishing tackle, hang in there and get well soon.

Good to hear about your progress John. Won't be all that long before you are 100%. Don't push yourself too much, just enough to help speed the healing. Plenty of time to boat and fish once you're healthy.

Thanks guys, step you must be reading my mind, I have pulled out every rod that I own and I've been going through them one by one and making a list of the guides that I need for repairs and I've ordered the thread colors that I need if I didn't already have them. I have re-spoiled just about every real that I have with fresh line .it's definitely passing sometime!

Hi guys, just figured I'd update some. 9.5 weeks post op, feeling pretty darn good I'm in physical therapy 3 days a week and this facility is good , so good in fact that I actually never remember my back feeling this pain free in my adult life. The PT office is owned by the same practice that did my surgery so the communication is rite on which I really like. But the best thing about being home is I've been able to take my grand children to and from school and spend lots of time with them, they love it too, a couple are in middle school and get a bus, and 3 in elementary school that I drive. The middle school bus stop is one block from the elementary school so we all meet in front of the elementary school and I take all 5 of them to 7/11 for slurppy's and candy. I send them home on a sugar hi. My daughters get furious with me but what the hell rite? Hope you all are doing well.

Glad you.re still doing good! Hope all you fellas are dong good. My back is doing ok as well. Had to take a few Tramadols lately, noticed that if I lift something heavy or stay on my feet too much it gives me some trouble. Doing ok for 60 years old though. My son in law, 33, is back in the hospital in bad shape. His liver and kidneys have shut down. His blood acid level has gotten out of control now and he's almost unconscious most of the time. Don't know if he'll pull through this time. Please say a prayer for him! Thanks!
