Anyone Do Remote Control

Dare I say, TOYS?
R/C Boats? Cars? Trucks? Helicopters, quads, drones, what do you guys got?

Since the beginning of the year I've been into quadcopters, now airplanes. I needed a distraction from the BS and the boat wasn't the answer I was looking for..

I've built a 1/10th scale YETI rock racer truck, six quadcopters, one hexcopter and I just bought my first R/C airplane.

You go through phases. I like to build stuff. The Yeti was the most intense model I ever seen. A lotta parts, upgrades galore. China made, everything... Amazon is sending me on an all expenses paid trip to Europe for the dough I've dropped on this junk...But I am sane, kinda.:nice:IMG_0491.jpg

I was at sams Saturday, and they had one of yhose 4 rotor drones with acolor camera built in for $99. I cant believe how cheal this stuff has gotten. They have a large scale grave digger with batteries and all for $99 as well. I don't know who Christmas wish shopping more, me or Patrick. Momma walked off shaking her head.

LOL. I gotta say R/C stuff puts a smile on my face every time. The rooster of dirt off the tires alone is worth the price of admission. Going nose in because you suck as a pilot, priceless. I fix a lot of stuff. I have a scale crawler I just bought. I figure I don't have enough money to buy the real mccoy, this is the next best thing. One of those fancy toploader chunks for a real rock climber is way more $$$ than these toys, whattayasay Spare? Ever get involved in R/C planes?

I've played with r/c stuff since I was a kid...

Planes, copters, boats, trucks, cars, rock crawlers...

I even light n drop fireworks from planes... Big ones.

I had controll line planes and free flight planes growing up. We did it old school, 1/16 balsa strips and tissue paper, rubber band powered. Bult a Taylor craft, Monocoupe, and a Howard DGA all before I was 10. Had a SIG ROG free flight that used 12 ft of rubber band, wound it up with a handrill. Graduated to silkspan, bigger pices of balse and airplane dope and nitro motors later on. I have an unassembled Sig kit Cessna 150 in my closet thats older than I am. One of these days I'm going to put it together. Never got into the RC cars, trucks, or boats. Not because I didn't want to, just because playing with the full size thing was more fun and I was usual;ly out of money by the time I got down the hobby of the day list to thoses. The RC rack crawlers are a very big thing, enjoy http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/107-radio-controlled-cars/

and yes, I just paid more for tires and rims(used) for my rock buggy than I'm asking for the Suburban

I just dug out my HPI RS4, 1/10th scale awd car,the other day. I haven't touched it since 04. I've been doing donuts in the house with it, forgot how much fun RC cars are. I also have a nitro T Max, but that's a little beat up and I think the engines seized. I have bigger toys to spend my money on now, so I think I'll let the truck sit.

Well that is where I was at the time. Not spending any money on big toys and going crazy sitting around the house. This was a needed departure from the norm. That is pretty cool. I didn't figure I was the only one..

Phat, your gonna put on 20 lbs wih that remote TV.

maybe not ridge, i still have to go outside , climb on top of the trailer and turn the antenna to bring in the other channel.

Bradford, We got one of those rocks ona string hanging outside for local weather. On like our third one due to Hurricanes.

the only remote controll anything I grew up with was when my parents told me to get up and change the channel to one of the other two channels

HEY NOW, I WAS that remote control growing up. Even when I got cars and such as a kid, they still had them cord things coming out of the back of them. Couldn't afford them cordless ones.

Been eyeing this one though. Can't afford one of the fancy ones, but my son likes this one.

That thing is huge, nearly 3 ft long. Patrick could ride it. Saw a couple 1/5th scale stadium trucks at Graves, very cool. 34 cc 2 stroke power.

Don't get too involved unless your willing to,(I stole this from a wise man), Go to the ATM, draw out the maximum. Go home, set the pile of cash in the middle of the dining room table and start burning the money bill by bill. Setting each one on fire in turn and watching each one burn up into pure ash before igniting the next. If you are comfortable with that undertaking, proceed on, same litmus test for boating really...

Ferm, you aren't gonna get stung too bad with a $100 toy. BUT Replacement parts are not avail from the box stores. So when it breaks, your just out the $$$. I've learned a lesson or two. Actually that is how it started with the cars/trucks. The wife purchased a dimestore toy truck for Melissa (maybe $15 bucks). It broke, she tried to hot glue and duct tape it back together but eventually lost the battle. Hobbytown USA here we come. Brushless anything starts at $175 and the sky is the limit. 1/10 scale Brushless electric truck that runs in the low 30's is $250-350 depending on 2 or 4wd. Buy a good charger and a couple extra lipo batteries, and the safety case, there goes another hundred plu$. It never ends. ie. Save the money on batteries and chargers and go gas, Nitro or 2 stroke... never ends... We started with a 4wd 1/16 scale for $75. Not brushless nor lipo powered. Parts are readily available and we still use the truck. It has been going all year.

Hence why I have a CAROLINA SKIFF now. Can't really afford a boat, but I can't be boatless either, so I had to get something CHEAP to run and maintain. I looked into nitro before, but the general consensus was that electric was the way to go with the new lipo batteries. And right now I couldn't afford new, so that leaves me with used, and with used you have no idea how it's been run, so it's not to say I could afford that either. Trying to save up now to buy a gas golf cart. We have a bit of property here, and with not being able to walk much, I need a way to get around better.

ridge, i was told the same about boating

"Stand in the shower under ice cold water and flush $100 bills down the toilet every 5 minutes. if your still happy after 1 hour, buy a boat."

guess we're all a little crazy

Here I've been thinking of putting RC on my gas golf cart...

Imagine how people would react when they get on it and realize they aren't controlling it!
