anchor locker

I did a long search a few days ago and didn't really find what I was looking for. So had to do this on my own.

Anyone else have an anchor locker full of cracked and flaking fiberglass/gel coat? I didn't notice until i pulled all the anchor rope out trying to tidy up before launching for the season. And noticed a whole lot of cracked gel coat. guess the previous owner just let the anchor bounce around.

This fix will prob make you guys cringe. But I figure nobody will see it and the ones who care can get off the boat. The wood under and around the drain hole in the hatch is pretty soft and the gel coat lifted a little plus the stringer is about toast in the middle. used a router to cut back the gel coat on the floor then scraped it back a good ways on the stringer to where i was able to find some solid wood and screwed it up tight to the old gel coat. Cleaned it and scuffed it up and laid some new resin and two layers of mat. It isn't the prettiest since it was my first time ever mixing resin but I can stand in there now. Prob add another layer for good measure at the end of the season and not worry about it...

Anytime you can repair and make functional again something that wasn't is a victory. Congrats on yours. A few pictures of your repair might help us understand what you did though, simply because my anchor locker is tiny and I'd never be able to stand in it, so I'm wondering from your description exactly what it is you repaired. But in all cases ...Well Done!!
