6.5 diesel no start again

Replaced starter in January i think. Thread on here somewhere. Now it clicks and that's it. also blowwing ignore 1 fuse. I hear a thunk ever time i replace it. Sounds like it comes from starter. Any advice? Just cleaned connections and about to drop starter.
Sitting behind Papa John's now and should be working.

If it just clunks then the starter solenoid is activating without kicking the voltage to the start motor. I have seen that program before.. Reman starter lasted about a week. Took the old one to the motor shop. They rebuilt it and same thing, just clicks without engaging starter motor. Crazy high compression on them motors. Not sure about blowing a fuse though..
Someone worlds smater than me are sure to be along any second..

Thanks for the Intro Ridge(couldn't resist)

If you hear a load clunk when you engage the starter, you may have hydraulic ed the engine. Check your oil level, see if its over full. See if you can rotate the engine over by hand, it won't be easy, you may have to use a pull bar on the crank bolt. I've seen the 6.5's stick an injector, that lets it fill teh cylinder full of fuel, you can't compress liquid. Some times if you let it sit over night, teh fuel will leak past the rings and let you start the engine, but as soon as it starts up, it will be filling the cylinder with fuel. I saw it happen in a street sweeper that stuck tow injectors at WOT, when they backed off the throttle, it was like a grenade went off, parts went everywhere, the crank shaft came out in pieces

I'm not sure on your particular application but it could use a slave solenoid ahead of the start. Take a test light. Have some on turn the key, see if you have power going into the solenoid when the key is turned to start. Try shifting the gear selector to neutral and see if it makes a difference

Dropped it off at B&M. They just called and said it was the solenoid. Now waitingg on a ride back over there.

Another issue. I have oil all over the intake and Turbo. Looks to be from the cdR hose. The c d r was replaced two years ago. The oil is running down the exhaust manifold and frame.

Got the starter in. Now the dam thing constantly cranks over when ever ign 1 fuse is in. Even with the key out. So is it the key switch or the ignition switch?

1996 GMC 2500. Its the big 40 amp under the hood. I disconnected the ignition. Wire and hot wired a push button to start. It has not blown the ign 1 fuse yetq.

I had a heck of a time getting all the air out of the fuel filter on the 6.5.
It caused it to occasionally die for no good reason. Usually happened shortly after start-up. If the batteries are good you could keep winding on it and it would start again, rev it to the moon and hope it got whatever air was trapped in the system out... The placement of the cartridge style filter leaves much to be desired. Kudos for the change in fuel filter placement on the 6.6.

When i replaced the injection pump last year i got rid of the pos fuel filter and installed a spin on fuel water separator filter. I also bought the new Stanadyne pmd and replaced the Pensacola diesel unit.

check the ecm.... common issue on those is a rainwater leak onto the pcm under the dash... I had TWO friends with 6.5 suburbans replace multiple pmd's and pumps only to finally find an ecm full of water.
