hi guys i have been told these engines idle like a tractor motor and vibrate a little. do they have problems with cracking the mounting points and do parts come loose on them ????????

with the heating problem would it be easy to make a heat exchanger out off copper pipe was mentioned they will heat up at low speeds trouling

165 hp should be a later model with the 4" heat exchanger, should solve you overheat issues. Should have the aluminum manifold and cast iron riser with the pressure cap on the riser. As far as idleing goes, its a big 4 cylinder, they aren't going to idle smooth regardless, a pertronix ignition and an early rochester carb will smooth them out pretty good, that being said, its still a 4 cylinder, its not going to idle but so good. AS far as parts falling off, Merc did a pretty good job of engineering it, haven't seen any more issues than any other motor
