250 Sportsman Info

You thinking about that sweet sportsman Spareparts found in Charleston? Lucky dog. That looks like one heckuva nice boat.

Yes, thinking about it. It is a little bigger than I think I want. I'm sure it will be a great fishing platform. Not so sure that its the right boat to take the kids tubing / skiing on the river for a day? Looking for opinions on towed weight and fuel burn?

Haven't we seen a 23'er thru here lately??...:sun:

If I could find the right 23, I'd be all over it. Would prefer a bracket this time I think. If nothing shows in the next month or so, I image you'll see me in a Grady 228G of mid 90's vintage. We shall see...

I don't have an exact weight but I tow mine with my 1/2 Ton Suburban 5.3L without much problem and I live in an area with a more hills than I think you have. I have an outboard though and this old spec sheet shows th OB @ 3750 and the I/O @ 4750:

I'm guesing I'm around 6000lbs. loaded up on the trailer. I get about 2 MPG at cruise and I have heard the same figure quoted by I/O guys.

I have used mine to tow kids on tubes and the extra space is great. On smaller boats its always what do you do with the tube(s) after everyone is done. I can put two blown up in the cabin! If you don't mind the fuel burn its great for tubing.

The 250 is a heavy beast. SKOOLS posted the weight of his awhile back with a trailer and it was shocking how heavy they actually are. For the engine I would figure about 12 GPH at a cruise RPM of 3000-3200 which would probably get you mid twenties for spead. So roughly 2 MPG like MB said.

I'll second MB's comment on tubing (we leave the inflated tube secured on the bow), but I don't think mine would be great for skiing without changing the prop.
